How To Deal With Homesickness As A College Student or being away from home in general when youve moved cities or are abroad is often an overlooked issue. You might be at college for the last month or two and you've experienced Frosh/Welcome week and met nearly everyone on your floor. You've begun knowing where your classes are and gotten into a bit of a routine. You've probably even gone to your first club or house party. However, as the semester or days have gone by one thing led to another and you're starting to miss home a lot more and find yourself feeling homesick in college. You may have gotten a bad grade on an exam, are having little dating success or that group project your professor got you doing is filled with people not holding up their end. NOW YOU FEEL HOMESICKNESS.
You've been away for a couple months and for many that's the longest you've ever been without seeing your parents, siblings or pets. Homesickness can become especially hard to deal with if you go to a college out of state/province or it's far enough away where you couldn't just stop by and see them at a moments notice. First of all don't be ashamed about it despite the posts you might see on Instagram or SnapChat you're not the only one going through it. I mean look at the views on this video lol.
A key thing to make you not feel as homesick is to add wall decorations. These are great because they don't take up space, unnecessary space in your dorm room. Cop a photo set on your wall where you can hang all your pictures of your siblings, parents and pets and bring that home like feel with you to campus, abroad, or your new city.

I would never imagine that I would get homesicked. I'm 24 yrs old and studying my master's degree in Spain, thousands of kms away from home. Even though I studied and worked a lot for being in this master's degree programme in Spain and even though I love Spain so much, It's been 1 month and I feel a huge lack of energy, willing towards nearly everything and i'm dealing with missing home&family&friends&my home city Istanbul&my culture, loneliness and a feeling of alienizing. I'm a solo backpacker and I have travelled a lot by myself abroad many times, I even travelled in whole Spain and loved it a lot. However, moving is different than travels. While travelling you don't miss your home because it still remains as your usual reality and a base on your psychology to stand upon. Moving alone to a new country and fighting everthing alone, struggling to communicate in the local language and with loneliness makes you feel so down and push you away to your apartment flat constantly. I can't even study and focus on why i'm here. It's hard. And wondering if it's permanent or not.

Hi I'm a high school junior and I really want to travel abroad! But can anybody answer some questions I have? It would be really helpful. Ok first off, how exactly does one apply to a school abroad? Is it the same process as schools in the states? Also, any suggestions for schools or countries that are great for studying abroad? If it helps, I speak French, Spanish, English, Korean, and I am currently learning Italian and German. Oh and I'm from California so it would help if the area studying abroad is kind of like home (not too much because I want to experience new shit, but not like any Siberian weather. Thanks!

Even having a close love relationship in the new country I live (6000 miles away from home) for already 5 years, Im still homesick and suffering. I go back home every three months for a week or so, but every time I return abroad and my cats are wining because Im leaving again, I have such terrible remorse and I keep on suffering because I know that I dont want to leave my love relationship either and for some reasons its impossible to expatriate my love to my home. So. unfortunately these suggested solutions really dont work for some cases.

Hello, I am currently in Germany enrolled to a language school. I have been here for a week and a half and i think I've never cried this much, my school starts next week but its just hard to not do anything. Im near a lot in Dresden but I feel that seeing new things is fun when you have someone else with you. I would make a friend but I don't start school for another 6 days. Any advice?

True. From DK. I've lived to Wales for the last 4 months and i can see i've done some errors already: Having a pity-party, not being out there meeting many beside from work. :)
Only thing is i live in a town where nothing much happens and my landlady and other housemates are good frends. fourth wheel feeling occurs.

Thanks. im from Singapore studying Arabic in Yemen which is a big difference in environment and hope this really helped as it is a rural city. This is my 4th day here and i was not very active than at home.

THANK YOU im in spain right now and its been a week and a half and this is my first time in eoroupe and my homsickness was so bad it would take me a hour to go to sleep
