For anyone thinking of visiting the Amalfi Coast and the Isle of Capri; don't make the same mistake as I did. I was envisioning sitting in a small Pizzeria on Capri, sipping some fresh Italian lemonade watching the sun go down over the ocean after a relaxing days stroll.
No.
It is one of the busiest, congested and overpriced places in Italy. The roads are lined full of market stalls selling tat. Everyone is rushing around trying to cram as many people into the island and getting them off there as soon as possible to fit more people in.
I'm not saying it isn't beautiful at times but it's definitly not relaxing or peaceful. It truly feels like you're being herded through the island.
Do not recommend.

In Lucca there is the second most important comics convention of Europe( Lucca comics anf games), at the very last days of october and the very first of November, so if you are not interested in the comics try to avoid to go to Lucca for Halloween, there are tourists in the order of 104 in those days and the city is almost completely blocked.
If you are interested in comics or tabletop games this convention is funny, but i think that is not worth to go in Lucca from America specifically for this convention.

Pisa: one of the most overrated cities in Europe. Milan is overrated too (my mother lives there, but you have places like the Naviglio in order to have a great dinner by the river.
On the pther hand you have Florence which is one of the most interesting cities to visit. Fact.
And as for Rome. you must visit Rome sometime in your life. It should be in everybody's to do list, like Paris.
Hope to see you in Buenos Aires. I will be the one that shouts maaaaaaaaarkkkkk! Haha

Lucca is also good because not only you are close to places like Pisa, Florence and Siena, but you are also very close to the coast, on which you can have a good time already from late April/May until late September. If you are there in January/February, don't miss the carnival in Viareggio (my home town, which is by many considered to be the best one in the whole country after the one in Venice.

As an italian i would like to suggest to foreign to explore more regions like Umbria or Marche, there are fantastic places full of history and good food. Also the italian montains in the north (wich are the highest in Europe) are really stunning, specially in the summer. Try to visit Trentino for example and you will not get disappointed. for the rest i agree with him. have fun!

Just another advice if you are coming here in Italy, don't order a heavy alcholic beverage or a cappuccino during launch or dinner, the alcholic One in Italy Is mostly used during aperitivo or After dinner. Cappuccio Is only for breakfast. Don't warry we are gonna give em to you no matter what, but don't be surpised if we look upset by the request

Another city which is very worth visiting in Tuscany is Siena which has so much history, traditions and an amazing style.
In the north definitely you can go to Turin. Dont miss it out. It has been the first Italian capital city and you can feel a unique Italian style.
Bologna as well especially for the amazing food

Great tips! We love Italy. We had great luck when we tried to go to Milan. When we looked at the airport we were going to fly from (thanks Ryanair) it was actually in Bergamo to the north of Milan. We skipped Milan, stayed in Bergamo and it was beautiful! Thanks for sharing Mark!
