I'm Italian.
An important tthing is be careful to buy something on the street (like museum ticket, metro ticket etc)if you think it's too good to be true. probably is not true!
I saw skip the line ticket sold for double (or triple) of the real price, or ticket sold for 25 or 50 euro when the museum is free!
Buy ticket only on official website or in the official tourism office!
Be careful with taxi (specially in airport) ask first the price (ask to more than one) and if on arrival it is much higher, you say no problem, i call the police!
And do not forget if it's too good to be true. Probably is not true!
The last advice is ask to Italian people, you can stop one person on street and you can ask anything! For example a good restaurant I'm sure he (or she) show you a restaurant to eat a very good Italian food at the right price.
The same if you don't know the real price of something, ask to Italian person!
The 99% of us are happy to help tourists so don't hesitate to ask!

If you like politics, then do not expect to engage in complex debates with the average Italian folks, unlike in USA, or, the rest of the nations with a democracy or elective governament, here in Italy there are like a dozen of political groups that all race to the top, and in the end, they accomplish nothing but dividing the people and giving the impression that the country is going nowhere. the average italian in my eyes, completely ignores the politics, due to the reasonable conviction that they're only good to talk in most cases.
If you like sun and beaches instead, fear not, you can basically visit the country in whichever month you like, because there will ALWAYS be someone who will go to the beach at the first ray of sun, even if it is December.

If someone need a special place for eating the best pasta of your life in Rome, I will indicating a restaurant you can find in a 30 min of walk from Colosseo.
1) take the metro from colosseo to Garbatella, its just 3 stops. (metro b, the blue one)
2) from the metro stop of garbatella research on google maps that address: Via Rosa Raimondi Garibaldi 26. The name of the restaurant is Il girasole.
3) you will find a typical restaurant. Carrefour, nobody speak english (and italian too ) but its one of the best pasta alla carbonara of Rome. Try, then let me know on the comments if was a good choose! Price are not for tourists, so you will eat well with a law budget.
Enjoy

hy, first of all congratulation, this video was really interesting, the only thing I would have added is that in Italy in hotels/houses ecc. there might be a little water fountain, that's called bidet and is one of the greatest battles between Italy and the world, when you are in Italy, you have emptied your stomach you can clean yourself there, it is uselful becuse you don't have to sincronize the moment of discharge with the shower, so please, use the little water fountain, noone likes when someone stinnks because he couldn't clean himself. apart from that great video

I was shocked to see teenagers rolling their own smokes in the market in Florence. Weirdly, since the cigarettes in Italy are not filled with chemicals like ours are, they didn't bother me as much as here at home (this from an ex smoker. No big deal, just realize it's part of daily life there. Aperitivos rock! Dov' e di toilette was one of the first phrases I made a point to learn. Love your videos!

Ciao doesn't mean hello like it does in English. It's used only to people you know, acquitances, relatives or people that are as old as you are or younger. Salve is the more general way of saying hello neutral, to people you don't know, older than you and it's just a more formal way of adressing to people.

You know, I am italian from Tuscany near Florence, but I'm not capable of cook every dish of every region and town, because they are too many and sometimes It Is difficult ti be aware of them. Many recipes are lost in time or they are no so knowed so restaurants do not prepare them.

as an italian I advice: Italians are very open, they were the first in history to build a truly cosmopolitan city like Rome. but they aren't so much in need of your advice, they aren't keen on taking lessons from abroad. my only advice. now enjoy your holiday in Italy.
