Couple other places you might want to check out that aren't as touristy. Santee Alley downtown. Olvera Street (think little mexico but cute and mini. The bar at the Bonaventure hotel, that floor is on some sort of wheel/bearing system so it slowly rotates and you get different views of downtown. Phillipe's french dip. Skid Row. not to sound exploitative for these people on the streets, but it's pretty crazy to see. and a good education to the darker side of Los Angeles. Griffith Park and The Observatory of course. Dodger Stadium if you're here in the summer (fireworks on Friday nights. Pasadena has some cool spots, like the Huntington Museum and Gardens. The Watts Towers are cool (there's a good documentary on it. We finally got a decent rail system, so even if you have a car (which you pretty much have to) taking the yellow line from Union Station to Santa Monica is cool. Or the Gold Line goes all the way from Monrovia to the Arts District (don't get fooled by the name, it used to be called the Warehouse District but a lot of artists and trendy coffee shops moved in there so, ya. Certain parts of the L. A. river you can bike down. that's pretty fun. If you want to play a quick 9 holes at a pitch & putt the city course that was featured in Swingers is in Los Feliz. cute neighborhood as well. Then Highland Park a few miles away where some of Reservoir Dogs was shot right on York Blvd has turned into this kinda trendy neighborhood with shops and restaurants and bars, that continues down Figueroa which is less of a strip you can just walk down, but has some cool stuff. Stones Throw Records has a bar there if you're into hip hop or that record label. Echo Park Lake, and McArthur Park Lake are nice for a picnic or hang. McArthur is a little bit more shady but it's fine. And Langer's deli is right there if you want a Pastrami. Amoeba Records is cool, I would say that's a must. Check out who's playing at The Hollywood Bowl when you're in town. Classic venue. I could go on and on. Any of you Angelenos out there that want to add to my list. feel free! I welcome the tourists to do things one might not normally think of or know about.

The worst tourist traps are the ones where white hipster liberals hang out, run the hell away! Melrose Blvd, Rodeo Dr, Santa Monica, Venice, Hollywood Blvd, Sunset Strip, Universal Studios, Disneyland, Olvera St, Grand Central Market. Basically what this video is all about! Ooooof stay away! You want to see LA. Instead of Disneyland, go to Magic Mountain or Knott's Berry Farm. Instead of Santa Monica and Venice Beach, drive on the PCH up to Ventura, they have GREAT beaches. Instead of the Hollywood sigh, drive and hike up to the Angeles Forest on weekdays though. Are you really desperate to see celebrities? Stay away, we have enough degenerates in LA. You really want to see LA? Stay away from the Farmer's Market, go to Santee Alley in Downtown LA, park in the $5 all day parking lots along Alameda, and do some walking. Stay away from crowded Chinatown, go to Alhambra. And whatever you do, stay away and don't ever listen to people who wear fedora hats and think they're hot and cute and take selfies all day long. Instead of driving to Vegas, go north to Mojave, visit Tehachapi, Red Rock Cliffs, the Owens Valley, Mono Lake, the back entrance of Yosemite. Instead of going to touristy Santa Barbara, go to the Santa Inez Valley, Los Olivos, Pismo Beach. I'm an LA native, let me tell you, CA can be a very god awful place to visit. if you visit and stay in the major cities. Branch out, visit the natural wonders. Don't go to Ralph's like that clown does. Go to the smaller community markets, like Superior or El Super if you really want to see what Angelenos do.

Raised in LA, worked hospitality in LA and OC. My biggest recommendation is when you are visiting LA or OC treatment then as two different destinations meaning if you are doing LA first, find things to do in LA area and only LA area. I seen so many people coming to cali for the first time and think I Disney is only 20 miles from my hotel in DTLA it cant be that bad trust it is bad and I dont recommend it (if your budget allows it. Also stay in DTLA or Hollywood I mean those are probably the place you are going to visit anyway so you wont have to worry about Ubers or driving. Use public transportation as much as you can when in LA (OC public transportation is ok) yea its not the best and just like any big city you are going to encounter weird stuff and see everyday people so do not be surprised! You can even take the metro to Santa Monica, Venice and Long Beach and specially during rush hour is faster and cheaper than an Uber or driving. Lastly just do research on what to do, ask locals where to go. Ask the front desk or concierge people at your hotel what they do?

Lifelong Angelino here.
The tours and maps of stars homes are all scams, FYI. You arent even seeing the outside of stars houses. They just take you to fancy looking houses and lie to you about celebrities living there, figuring you wont know the difference.
Another scam: never pay to go hiking. Los Angeles has a lot of wonderful hiking trails, and every single one of them is free. I see a lot of sites selling discount hiking tickets/passes/excursions, which are collecting your money in exchange for absolutely nothing.
Finally, the neighborhood of Hollywood is not glamorous. Its skeezy. Maybe go there for specific activities like the Walk of Fame. (Though I never understood the appeal of a bunch of names written on the ground) But dont stay there, unless you want to constantly dodge overly aggressive homeless people and teach your kids what it smells like when you mix urine, feces, and marijuana.

Hers's my tip to La touristis. If you're thirsty just go to Statbucks or Coffee Bean ask for an iced water most of the time its free. You have to be very patient while driving becuase of traffic and have some water bottles and snacks inside your car with good music beacuse you have to entrtain yourself until you get to your destination lol. Tourist trap is when you're walking in Venice beach there are artists who tell you to listen to their music with their earpods! and tell you to buy their track! or painters or illustraters forcing you to buy their Art. Just walk away, because they'll talk forever.

Dont take the CDs those dudes are handing out claiming there is music on them. Its 2021 barely anyone uses CDs anymore. Theyre either gonna have nothing on it or the quality and sound of the music will be really bad. Even if u take it and change ur mind theyll want a tip. Just say no. Last year my buddy was visiting LA for first time (Ive been once before) and took a CD and gave it back n all the guys surrounded him n demanded hed tip them. Falling for the pressure, he gave them $. Avoid the dudes handing out CDs!

In Las Vegas at the Italian/Venice looking hotel, some people powder themselves to look like statues and stay still. A whole crowd of first time tourisgs came out of nowhere and swarmed the busker without paying. I helped form a linr and told them the jar was to pay before taking a picture. I also reminded them to not crowd the picture area so paying customers could get a nice picture. The busker shed a tear while maintaining character.

Id say dont go to downtown LA unless you are aware what you are in for In any other major city downtown is the place to be. not there.
Ive traveled a lot and havent even seen a place quite like that, it was truly sketchy and just really bizarre.
Also, In n Out may not be a scam but they need to get over themselves, its incredibly overrated, its a fast food place like any other.

I think the better word to describe these places is just overrated They are cool, and they are worth seeing at least once But people have this over-glamorized idea of Hollywood as a whole and so its hard for the actual place to live up to the fantasy idea of the place So just ho there with lowered/realistic expectations and then you will enjoy it more
