You'll shoot your eye, kid! The movie was based on a compilation of several shorts stories by Jean Shepherd, a satirist from the 1960s. If you like the movie, you'll love his short stories about growing up in the Midwest. Trivia alert - in the short story, it was a ham the Bumpus' dogs demolished, not a turkey.

Even though the house is in Cleveland, the movie is set in a fictional town called Hohman, Indiana which is based on the real life city of Hammond, Indiana. Hohman Avenue is the main street that runs through their downtown which is where the name comes from.

Love that place. We went there a few years ago. Love it. Want to go back once more at least. So much to see in the house, museum, and oh the gift shop. Now to spend the night.

I live an hour away from there and last year was my first time visiting A Christmas Story house. It truely was magical to be in the house! We didnt get to sleep over though.
