Solo Hiking on the Ice Age Trail Phasmata: Not too often do I get to see my own home region featured in something of this quality and from the perspective of a non-local visitor. Glad to see others enjoying the areas I grew-up in and still (more or less) call home. It is sad that habitat her in SE WI is so incredibly fragmented, and even large parts of Kettle Moraine is fragmented and narrow with development bearing down on it, but it is still great to have what we have, and the area is pretty unique.

You can adjust how coarse or fine you want your coffee with the screw that is in the center of the grinder. The finer the grind the longer it takes. For pour over you need a midium coarse, for like infusion you can use coarser grind. You can use a coarse grind, pour del the coffee in the boiling water, leave it like 6 min and the filter the water with your filter; )

I have a hand grinder for coffee beans from Japan and its small and works great and only takes like. maybe a minute? 30 seconds? and it makes about 2 cups of coffee. I only drink decaf now but hey I can still grind the beans. If I can find the brand ill put it here in an edit. Might be faster than the mason jar one for people who are looking for that?

Thank you for sharing this trip, Robby! This gave me the inspiration I needed to do my first solo backpacking trip a couple days ago. I went to the same place you did and the gold colors of fall there are beautiful. I understand how you can hurt an ankle there too since the trail is so rocky. Hope to see more solo hikes because you do a great job!

Don't worry about cutting your hikey short. When hiking, as in life, you have to make good decisions. Hiking is not where you start or stop, but rather the space an time in between those two points. Love your vids, I was thinking about you a lot as I was hiking the Timberline a few weeks ago. Thank you for inspiration and knowledge

Very cool video. Ok. trekking poles might have prevented the ankle sprain. Before I used them, I'd slip and fall regularly (like, into beaver ponds. not fun. Since using poles, I haven't fallen at all, plus they relieve pressure on hips, knees, etc. I don't know why people hike without them. Probably, just not as clumsy as I am.

They-re going to be making videos from the perspective of talking to the trail builders.
They-re NOT going to talk down to us anymore!
People have been to these locations for millions of years. You-re just beginning to go here.
Clearly you-re unwise. You talk down to the people, every video.

If you finished the trail, you-d end up at the Western Terminus in St. Croix Falls, WI. I-m the mayor there. I recently had the unique opportunity to welcome the IAT-s first female winter thru hiker, Emily Ford, and her dog Diggins. I hike the IAT segments near me often.

Hope the ankle heals!
Not that it-s crazy elevation gains or anything but people are often surprised by the amount of elevation changes on the IAT. Not mountainous by any means but it ain-t the flat corn fields that are often seen in Wisconsin.

Were there a lot of people on the trail? I've done multiple 1 week backpacking trips with a group in Costa Rica but I want to try going solo in my home state of Wisconsin and it would be awesome if I could sing as I went and no one would hear me xD
