Austin is known for its local food, great live music, and keeping it weird. Its a great place to live and visit, thanks to low taxes and low crime rate. It's a party town and the music capital of the US. This video about Austin is more than a travel guide. Jeff: Yea, Austin really cool, try taking a tour of our really great homeless camps where u can sample some of the finest fentynal & meth that we have to offer. bring plenty of money so u can spend it on all our over priced shite. make sure ur off the downtown Streets by midnight as we'd hate to have u get shot or mugged by some of our finest citizens. If u do get assaulted shot or robbed, dont bother calling our Police as there r not enuff of em to give a damn. if ur moving here, hope u really enjoy the outrageous taxes we pay. All that money our city collects for which u get nothing in return. Yep. what a wonderful shithole we a becoming

This all looks nice, but ignores all the homeless, trash generating bums living under overpasses and on banks of neighborhood creeks, combing through neighborhood cars at night to steal whatever they can. This is all thanks to a mindless, left wing city council who has defunded the police and invited uncontrolled homelessness -- while living in their gated, security patrolled homes. However, all the fools moving here from other liberal destroyed cities are voting for all this, so there is little hope to turn any of this around.
I've lived in Austin since 1965 when Austin was a beautiful town with virtually no crime, little traffic, friendly citizens, and sane city leaders -- that all when out the window somewhere in the 90's and it's been straight downhill since.

Austin is no longer affordable if you plan to stay here long-term unfortunately. You will be a forever renter and a broke one at that. Musicians are being displaced as everyone is being priced out by the transplants working remotely. Crime has started to increase and housing is no longer affordable even for college students. The pay is abysmal for anyone who isn't an executive or high level manager in comparison to cost of living and housing. So you wouldn't be able to enjoy the party life anyway. I give Austin an F- right now.

It is too late. Austin has already been overrun by corporate America. Iconic Threadgills is gone (probably replaced by a Starbucks. My brother-in-law owned a wine bar downtown that had live music most nights (a staple of downtown Austin pre 2020s, but megacorps made bids on the lot that just priced him out, so now there is a Starbucks or some shit there.
In closing, everyone coming to Austin now is just feasting on the corpse of what Austin used to be.

Grew up about 40 miles outside of Austin. When we were kids going to Austin was like going on vacation, loved it. I have now worked in Austin now 30 years and with the population boom the traffic is horrible. The city council is idiots scamming the tax payers of their money. There are still good areas but for the most pert the homeless rule the city. It-s a shame that the city council does not care enough for the tax payers to take care of their best interest.

I left Austin back in 2013 and I am glad I left when I did. However, I will forever miss the food and one of my favorite places of all time, Barton Springs. I used to swim at Barton Springs almost every day. Those waters are magical. When the days came that I was unable to find a parking spot at the springs at 10a. m in the morning anymore, I knew it was time for me to leave the city. Now that Austin is turning into L. A, I am so glad that I did.

Ah! The ole Austin is a great place to go hat trick! No, Austin was amazing 25 years ago, now, there's no live music! They paved over that, skyline is nothing but condos, homeless people crawling everywhere and people from all over coming in thinking it's the new Mecca! But. sadly it's a crap hole now! And no offense people showing up there, you're just coming to finish off a city you know too well. good luck and good bye Austin!

I-ve been in Austin for 10 years. Currently looking for the next Austin. It was great before the population boom. Now, good luck getting a meal on the weekend without a reservation. Same with all the parks, all the time. Any where fun in or around Austin will take you driving around for 30 minutes plus looking for parking. I-d come here if my job was taking me here but I wouldn-t recommend moving here just for fun any more.

How about an anecdote? At the time I was living in Houston. I visited Austin because the first ) game developers conference was being held there. Anyway, while I was going to the event, the cab driver bragged about Austin being a hill country. Being from Turkey, I said -Pal, what you call hills here. we call them bumps on the road-. I know Texans love everything big, but that day I was the winner; o)

This city is going down! It's copying attitude and actions of San Francisco before it's decline. Tourist are seen as potential victims not guests and they are always on the lookout for ways to get you to spend your money. A rule of thumb when traveling is if they have local hotel tax stay away. It's seriously not worth it
