VAN LIFE in OREGON (a happy ending)

Sadly, we-ve been in severe drought for several years, so it isn-t the temperate rainforest paradise it should be. We-ve had terrible fires in the past 4 years that burned some of the most spectacular scenery-the Colombia George, including Multnomah Falls in 2017, and Mt. Jefferson Park last summer-
There-s some world class wind surfing and rock climbing, to be had around here. And across in Washington, the Columbia River bar is one of the most dangerous in the world for ships. And the size trees used to be around here before mass logging is pretty stunning. Truly, you come to the PNW not for our cities, but the outdoors and our fruit.
But please come back when Portland has had a chance to recover from the pandemic. There-s an international artisan food, dessert, and micro brewery scene that-s truly worth savoring; the world-s largest bookstore, a hippie/artisan culture, and a remarkable perfume house. Our unicycling bagpiper adds character, too- It truly is a cool city, and am sorry she wasn-t looking her best for you.

Ngl-just now seeing this and I have choosen Oregon as my first destination with just myself and three dogs. I value your guys- opinion, and appreciate the fact that you were very upfront and honest about everything going on in Portland at the time you were visiting. Thank you! I Would love to drive through it just to say I-ve been there, but will probably not be stopping. I, like Kara, do not eat breakfast. And if that-s the only reason to stop, then I-m good just waving as I drive by. - LOL

You guys should check out a couple places in Arizona of you get the chance. They are some of the most beautiful places in the world up by the Grand Canyon. You guys should consider checking out Havasupai Falls, Antelope Canyon, and Horseshoe Bend. I am sure the two of you would provide amazing access and info!

I just watch d your vlog in Portland, OR. I made a face when you said you were headed to Portland. Portland is just a toilet zany more. People are leaving OR and headed to Idaho! - nobody wants to live in Portland these days. My son went to university in Portland many years ago. It was also a toilet then! I thought you would climb to the top of Multnomah Falls. A few years ago that whole area was burned during some nasty wildfires!

If you ever make your way back to Portland there is a little hole in the wall donut shop that makes the worlds best Apple Fritters you will ever eat. Donut Queen on 58th and Burnside. Portland and Oregon has changed tremendously over the years but there are still good areas in town just sadly too many bad places if you don-t know where to go. Love your videos and appreciate your happy positive attitudes.

Portland has had some really long standing issues that are coming to a head now as a native from there, yeah they're still cool parts of town to check out beyond downtown but honestly it's one of those where it's probably better to come back another time sadly. My family and I are/have been moving away despite being there for generations. It's hard and thank you for being honest about it's state right now

The discussion about Portland at the time this was posted makes me giggle a bit. Yes Portland went through a really rough time, but downtown isn-t the best area-ever. It-s known for being sketchy and weird and sometimes super unsafe. I never feel safe down there, but my mom loves it and tells me all the crazy stories. Weird doesn-t even begin to describe normal Portland.

I've been to Oregon with my parents and saw Mount Hood back in 2014 (We later saw it again along with Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, and St. St. Helens while flying out of Seattle, Washington.
We've also visited Multnomah Falls. While there, while our backs were turned, a man proposed to his girlfriend and she accepted.

I actually just visited Portland earlier in the year and just across the street from that Voodoo I was sitting at the pizza place and said -it's amazing how safe I feel because many people wouldn't right now- for context, I grew up around Chicago. Crazy how everything's relative!
