The WHW has a bit of a reputation in the UK for being crowded and a bit bland. The best of the Highlands is if you get a bit more off the beaten track into remoter areas. The right to roam means that you can walk and camp freely even on private land subject to some commonsense restrictions and there are also bothies (free shelters. There are not really any properly designated long distance trails apart from the WHW so you need to plan a multiday trek yourself using the awesome Ordanance Survey maps. It is well worth doing as the scenery and remoteness (by UK standards) of the Highlands is exhilarating. A good time to go is the beginning of September with the autumn colours and the end of the midge season.

Ooof! You didn't enjoy that much mate, did you? Pity for your first experience of Scotland. Tbh the West Highland Way is now a tourist circus. Given your experience I'm not surprised you found some of this 'basic' and 'monotonous'. Next time (if there is one in Scotland) try the north-west - areas like Torridon, the Gareloch and Assynt. These areas are breathtakingly beautiful, much more remote and less travelled by the day-trippers.

Wow, that's hardcore doing the WHW in that short a time AND the Ben Nevis CMD summit after. Very impressive. Looked like you had good conditions. You're right about the midges, they're a nightmare. I think you get them in Alaska too. It's frustrating because you wait all year for the weather to improve in Scotland and when it finally does, the midges are voracious Great video, hope you come back to UK soon outside of midge season

Midges dont appear usually until around mid May. The best time to do trails etc in Scotland is mid April to mid May as its quite often dry, sunny, cool air and no midges. I usually go away for a month every year from early April to the second week in May and some years I see no midges, its even ok to sleep on the beach in a bivy with no need for a head net.

Knowing the WHW as I do I'm impressed that you did such long days and also in your craft that you knew where to get the drone up for those great shots. I'd be losing patience (and probably my drone) trying to get a good shot before being eaten by the midges. It's a particularly bad year for midges. Just got to keeep moving faster than they do.

Pretty sure I have watched every hiking video you've ever done and I haven't gotten tired of them yet, so you must be doing something right. Beautiful work, as always, thanks for sharing your adventures.

My home. I've climbed most of the Munros alongside the West Highland Way. This video is therefore very special to me. I was in Glen Coe only yesterday. Thank you for coming to Scotland.

I don't think that Kraig can express how beautiful and peaceful that place is. And I'm glad you only got the midges and not the klegs. Those are rough in a different kind of way.

Thank you so much for taking us on your journeys. They are wonderful to watch and you do so well with cinematography. Scotland is my heritage. I would love to go sometime.

I miss Scotland a lot. This video brought me good memories from that time. I remember done so nice great hikes over there at Cairngorm park, Ben Nevis and Liathach.

Ahh I see you've been acquainted with the infamous Scottish midge! We're having a bumper season this year. Basically sunrise and sunset - hide!
