The Ganden Monastery, 50 km from Lhasa, is one of the largest buddhist monastries in Lhasa. It was founded by Tsongkhapa in 1409. It is situated in a stunning setting, on a ridge above the valley, at 4, 300 m. a. s. l. (14, 100 feet. Recorded October 2013 in HD with Panasonic TM900.

I visited Ganden on Sept 30, 2018 because of this video. 9am pickup. 45 min to drive there on smoothly paved highway. Back by 1: 15pm -- much too fast. Unless you hire a private guide, you won't be given the time to climb up the hill above Ganden as shown in this video. Tibet is expensive because Beijing wants us to be supervised by guides but visiting Tibet is one of my top 5 highlights of my round-the-world trip.

Where are all the Tibetan monks? I read a book called Tibet, Behind the Ice Curtain, it made me cry The way the occupying Chinese tortured peace loving Monks is terrible. God bless the people of Tibet The world has not forgotten you.
