27 Hours on Ethiopian Airlines! Business Class on the Boeing 787 Mark: I did this in 2016 to Heathrow. Back then the route was Sao Paulo to Addis Ababa, with a stopover in Lome in Togo. We had an 11 hour connection in Addis Ababa, so we were prepared to spend the night in the airport. Imagine our surprise when, while checking in in Sao Paulo, we discovered that Ethiopian provide a hotel for overnight connections. Not only that, but we would have transfers to and from the hotel, and dinner and breakfast included aswell. The hotel was lovely, a Radisson, and the food was nice. We flew to London the next day, and it was on the 11th of September, which just happens to be Ethiopian New Year! So the whole city had a very festive feel about it, it was very cool.

Hi Noel,
I am very impressed with your videos.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
I have not yet found any videos about (my personally worst airlines:
Iberia and Alitalia.
Anyway, I actually have two questions for you:
1. what camera do you use when you record the entire flight.
2. which powerbank do you use? In one of your videos (24 hours USA with the overnight stay in the stinky JFK Inn) you had presented one.
Thanks for the answer and keep flying and sharing your world with us.
All the best
Jochen

Ah, Ethiopia and its Airline are a little special. Tryafrican and national flights.
And if you disembark in Addis towards Addis ensure you have your check-in lugage stickers - they do really check! And be careful, once you walk out of the door there is no way back in, as non-flyers (like somebody wanting to pick some one up) have to pay entry fees with a long queue. prices in ADDs overrated shopping area are extremly overpriced - and very often only payable in USD to generate foreign currency income - your 5 USD coffee costs less then one in town

Its been many years that I first visited Gambia on a last minute package holiday. I must admit that I was a little perturbed when I saw that we were going to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight. But I was more then pleasantly surprised at the overall experience with the excellent service leaving a lasting impression many hundreds of flights later. Great to see that theyre still doing a surprisingly good job.

I cannot afford business class but have flown economy twice Gaborone to Heathrow. It was fine but do not know who does their catering on the Gaborone Addis Ababa leg as food was terrible and on both occasions was Ill. ( on this leg I noted a number of passengers had brought on their own snacks, )From Addis Ababa food fine for economy

I couldn't agree more with you Noel about the food. They could really impress by providing some traditional Ethiopian food. Chicken nuggets for breakfast? That's not a default breakfast anywhere in the world, nevermind in Business Class. Cheers to another great video! i want to try that Ethiopian coffee and beer!

Noel, I was particularly interested in this video as my father worked for Ethiopian on loan from TWA to train them to run their airline. Things of course have really changed there in Addis. When we first flew in there it was on a Douglas DC6B and the airport terminal was basically a shack.

Nice to hear you enjoy flying Ethiopian.
I am a big Manchester United fan, I've a plan to come visit Manchester and watch a United game. I was hoping to see Oldtraford when fly down to Manchester
I saw a big building with RED on it. But it isn't Oldtraford.

Don't you guys know that Africa is a continent?
Brazil(country, UK(kingdom) and then there is Africa(continent. Why couldn't you from South America to Europe via Africa, that would have made sense. So tell me if you passed through all of Africa.

Rising airline in Africa Ethiopia airlines is the pride of Africa its affordable, good service, smooth landing, best food, friendly cabin crew and hospitality so fly with Ethiopia airlines to experience Africa culture and beauty love from Ethiopia
reply

Shame you didn't eat any of the Ethopian food, it's so delicious and unique! Like a cultural blend of North African and east African food, but also something completely different altogether. Why did you turn your nose up at it: (?
reply

Dude, I'm an East African and even I wouldn't make my first trip to Africa a 27 hour flight on an exotic airline! Lol. You're one brave soul! But Ethiopian are known to be great, so you lucked out there. Great content. Thank you.

I'm curious as to why B&Q wrote their name in huge letters on their roof. Who exactly were they hoping to entice into visiting? Tired passengers, Santa, Aliens? Seems hell of a long way to by some screws and some shelves.

Noel: Today Im going from London to Manchester, not by train, but by plane, via Emirates and Cathay Pacific. 54 Hours from London, to Dubai on to Hong Kong and finally via Cathay to Berlin then on into Manchester. lol

Flew London to Addis return, was pretty good. Was some time ago so wasn't a Dreamliner in those days. Ethiopia was incredible, the civil was going on now is terrible.
Should try the food as it is wonderful.

reply

Awesome trip report. The food looked good, but I agree that some traditional food would have been better. It's great that you were able to experience both the old and the new business class seat

That flight path from Brazil to the African continent has to be one of the scariest in the world. If the plane encounters difficulties you got nothing but ocean for thousands of miles.

I bumped into an article about your flights within Tanzania this morning- and ever since, I have been binge-watching several videos of yours. I'd better get some sleep now. Thanks

Very quick question.
Did you happen to try the wonderful 'cama' coaches in Brazil?
We have these luxury coaches to make up for the lack of a consumer train system
