Dont Make This Mistake When Flying in Vietnam! Kev: Tan Son Nhat is running way over the capacity it was designed for so it is always hectic going through there.
They are building a massive new airport just out side the city but strangely they say they will keep old airport for domestic flights?
The distance between the old and new airport is a 2 hour drive so in the future transfers like this wont be as easy as walking from one building to the next like it is now.
One solution they are considering is a high speed rail link however when it has taken 10 years to build their first metro line and its still not done how long and how much money would it cost for a high speed train?
As the land is massive at the new location the obvious solution is just build it big enough for both international and domestic terminals and shut down completely the old airport.
As the old airport is basically in the city the land could be sold off to developers and the massive amount of money they would get would probably pay for the new airport.
Always consider it safer having flights taking off and landing over unpopulated areas vs densely populated cities as its just a matter of when not if a plane will crash

Well, you were really stressed out there in the airport in Ho Chi Minh City Noel. I was stressing out with you. I was living the drama
along with you. I was panting and sighing so much I had to reach into my little bar fridge and crack a can of Toohey's Extra Dry.
I was thinking it's even easier to say Saigon than the current name, but uh oh, politically incorrect since reunification. You really did
enjoy the meal once you were skyside. My wife and I like Vietnamese food too. You were much more relaxed after you made it through
the polite and welcoming Changi airport in Singapore. And I was relaxed too, after my second can of Extra Dry. But, may I respond to
comments re flying with Cambodian Angkor Air. Yes, go for, record it, and take us along too you old sausage. Fly high Noel!

Hi Noel I enjoy your videos and wondered if you had flown with China Airlines, some years ago I was fortunate to go on a seventeen day tour of China and had some internal flights and during one there was no screens at all and the cabin crew came on the intercom during the flight making announcements in Chinese and people were putting up their hands and some time later one person was called forward to applause from the other passengers and given a gift wrapped box, when we landed I asked our Chinese guide what was happening and she said they were having a quiz and the person had won, it certainly made a change to watching The Big Bang Theory, have you had this experience on your flights.

We had an internal to international with Vietnam Airlines some years ago. Left Phu Quoc for HCM, but the departure was over an hour late leaving our transit across the airport to the next flight extremely tight. On arrival at HCM, while waiting for our bags, I found a lovely lady and explained our predicament. She phoned the gate then basically ran us across the airport, through security and passport control in a matter of minutes (it was about 1am) and we made the flight, which they'd held, as the last passengers to board. You're right about Vietnam Airlines staff, they're all smashing.

Noel I have a travel experience for you: go to Costa Rica and make your way to Sierpe, from there take the river taxi from there to Drake Bay. You would then be able to fly out of Drake to somewhere else, but my wife and I just did this and it was quite the adventure. For added fun do it during rainy season
Another great video! I love the irony of how Im watching this video having spent almost 7 hours in the San Jose airport because we had to return the rental car well before our flight

Though I live not far from HCMC I have only flown VA once, a return trip to Gatport Airwick. This flight was sold as a direct flight, and I mistakenly took direct to mean non-stop. We stopped for fuel in Germany and had to deplane there, be searched and reboarded without even enough time to have a coffee or use the loo. On the return flight the plane left Gatwick early morning, only to land in Paris and spend 3 hrs. on board sat on an apron waiting for the fuel truck.

Had a business trip from KATL - KSFO with a connecting flight in KDEN. Plane arrived late, had to hoof it to the connecting flight, only to find out that there was a gate change and had to hoof it to that gate. Got there only to find out the the connecting flight WAS at the original gate. Really had to run to get there with less than 1 minute before the closed up the door! Connecting flights are not for the timid!

I work in maintenance control for an airline, Yes not having a ashtray in the toilet will make the aircraft unserviceable, even though there are smoke alarms in the toilets if someone was to have a smoke it is much safer to stub it out in the ashtray then to put it in the bin, incidentally there is a halon fire extinguisher under the sink pointed into the bin in case a fire was to start

It has been may years since we flew Vietnam Airlines, BUT every time it was DELIGHTFUL!
Maybe things have changed, but I would not hesitate to fly Vietnam Airlines again.
Every flight is different, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes not.
If you want a REALLY BAD experience try Jetstar - an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE!
Any Jetstar flight is completely HORRIBLE!
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER again!

Cambodia Angkor Air is operated by Vietnam Airlines so If youll get the same great service as you did on this flight. 10 years ago I lived and worked in Saigon. I flew Vietnam Airlines many times. They always upgraded me to first because as the ticket agents would always say, You are so tall so we have you first class. Watching this video brought back a lot of great memories.

So out of character. I am flying with the cheapest air line to Singapore. the dreadful budget airline that is Air France. I ensured that there was a 5 hour gap for my onward flight to KL. which would allow me time in the lounge and shower.
Love the vids. anyway I going spend 9 weeks in KL then Gibraltar next the New your. Athens, Rome, Tel Aviv for 2023.

Why did you choose the stop-over while I believe Vietnam Airlines has a direct flight service from Danang to Singapore, but also Singapore Airlines offers non-stop service as well on the B737.
Please fly the non-stop service by Vietnam Airlines from San Francisco to Ho Chi Minh city on the B787 Dreamliner.

reply

Surprised you made it. It was one ticket but the low cost carrier cannot check you through to your final destination and cannot issue the boarding pass for the full service carrier, so it's basically like two unrelated tickets = high risk if the 1st flight is delayed or cancelled.

The most interesting part of the review was catching a glimpse of the date on the Vietnam news! Ive always wondered about the lag time between your flights and when you load them up on you tube! Love your vlogs-they are always so much fun, I feel like Im travelling with you!

Another travel presenter did a video of the Hawaiian island hopper that United Air provides. Noel have you ever thought about that flight? They stop atHonolulu, Majero, Kwajalein and several other islands before they land in Guam. Id love to see you make this trip!
reply

Well man, you know what they say, you bought your ticket, you knew what you were getting into, I say. feel the burn in those glutes. Although I think I may have just booked myself the same problem for an upcoming trip. Oh, and there is no way that is you bag!

There's no bus for transiting passengers from the domestic terminal to the international terminal because there are very few people do so, unlike in the US. Thanks for sharing this video, it's very useful for people travelling to Vietnam

Noel Philips: Your loo review doesn't clearly illustrate the amount of space in the various bathrooms. Do they have room for 2 people? Not just for the mile high club, but if you have children or a handicapped travel mate.
reply

I flew Da Nang-Ho Chi Mihn too last week with Vietnam Airlines and connected internationally onto EK. You certainly took a weird route between terminals. You could have saved yourself heaps of time and stress. lol.
