Brussels has always been Dutch speaking. It is only recent (100 years) that it has been mainly French speaking, thanks to law discriminating that 63% Dutch speakers because Dutch was seen as a peasant langgauge. Brussels also experienced a big migration of French speakers during that time which resolted to them getting important jobs eventually driving out the native Dutch speaking population or forcing them to start speaking French as a way to avoid discrimination.

The art I found in Bruges, Flemish art, can be compared for its displays of medieval torture only to that one finds in the Vatican museum.
The foods easiest to find are mussels and fried potatoes. If that is not your idea of good cuisine, then you will have to search harder.
Brussels is to me of far greater interest. Also, if you want to get away, you may find wonderful, economical bus tours that begin in Brussels and thread the major cities of Europe.

The sad part is that the town of Brugge is nowhere near original. All you see today it 75 years old, because literally the while town got bombed flat. All the medieval houses you see are mere replicas of what the original looked like.

I live in Belgium and went to Brussels yesterday. It's beautiful, but it's easy to end up in dirty and pretty dangerous parts. If you really want to visit Belgium, i recommend Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent and Ostend. Much cleaner and safer

Two more fabulous European cities. I've been to Brussels, but not Bruges. Did a river cruise in Ghent as part of a tour, but didn't get to see the rest of the city. Hopefully next time.

This is a nice place to visit. I hope restrictions will be lifted and soon it will be safe to travel again. My scheduled trip to Italy and Germany this year is already cancelled.

Boat trip for one hour, horse cart ride along with Belgian beauty recommended. Entire Bruges is a world heritage site. One can enjoy 500 types of beer at Bruges at a single place.
