Ostia Antica, Italy: Peek Into Ancient Rome Timothy: My understanding is that, the City was established about 600 years before it became a Roman colony. I was able to visit the site about 2 weeks ago and found it beautiful and fascinating. Came away with about 300 digital images. I was greatly impressed that the site is funded by the Italian Government; not UNESCO or WHF

Thanks Rick, I love Italy but it's so far from Australia, but your videos and your presentation takes me right back there every time, I would love to do a tour with you, you are so knowledgeable of Italy. Cheers mate, Jason Andriske.

Mussolini had it excavated and restored first. Too bad the Romans got weak and lost everything: Imagine a world where 'gods' were just symbols, and no real crowd control 'religions' yet existed - could have turned out well!

Don't ever stay at The Golden Tulip, not in Ostia its just off the freeway several kms from Ostia. Very bad experience on my last 2days in Italy, but i love Italy.

Phenomenal how similar some of these things are to the modern day. that fast food restaurant seems almost unreal. Another amazing location choice and video, Rick.
