We continue to build the tree house cabin in a thunderstorm using free recycled pallet wood. This is a fun cheap off grid project I am building with my Dad. We install the windows and build the roof. It's almost ready for my kids to enjoy, but next we will need to build a ladder and some more interior things before the it's complete. Brilliant seeing father and son working together on something for the next generation. The progress Grandad made during your time away was amazing, and all whilst recording the content.
Would be good to see if you can get some recycled materials to finish the corners off, maybe some old bitumen roofing cut down and folded around the corners.
Then some guttering to collect rainwater that goes through a gravity fed water purifier. Ok maybe I’m getting carried away and just a tad jealous
Thanks for the updates and content guys, really loving this build.

7: 45 dad breaks down the pallet so truly nothing is wasted, even sawdust
I would love to see how he ties up those shingles so neatly with that beautiful cross wire in the middle.
So tidy, logical, and British
Father and son build a dream house together for childlike play
I’d love to see a kid sized garden and roof(upperdeck) covered picnic/work area down below
Thank up as always

Increase the length of the overhang. At least that's what Matt Risinger says.
Long/deep overhangs reduce the amount of water the siding and foundation receives, prolonging their lifetime.
You might be able to add them later quite easily, by extending the rafters by 1-2 feet and putting a few more boards up. The only tricky part would be the overlap with the old roof.

Nice one! You've inspired me to build a tree house like this in the garden for my kids, aged 5 & 7. I reckon I can scrape together enough pallets too so shouldn't cost much. I was just wondering how you are going to weatherproof the roof around the integral tree Lead flashing would be ideal, but probably not in keeping with the ethos of a woodland tree house

Well done guys. I've enjoyed this series of the tree house build so far. Graham you did a great job with the opening window. So glad you managed to get out of the thunderstorm, and remained relatively safe.
Looking forward to seeing the childrens faces when they get to see the house.
Take care and stay safe.
Thank you

Hello everyone. Just remember, your parents were your grandparents experiments. YOU, are their actual treasures hahahaha. Think about how grandparents spoil and go all out for their grandchildren, while your parents, aunts and uncles complain that they never did that stuff for them

love this content, love that its you and your dad together doing the graft, and I feel your pain with doing all the prep cuts for the shingles etc- im doing a project myself presently and in a similar situation- but when its done it will be worth it. look forwards to the next one.

My parents, regarding thunderstorms: don't stand beneath trees, if lightning strikes the tree you could be hurt or killed.
Also my parents: during thunderstorms, you should not stand in an open field, because the lightning will strike the highest standing point.
thanks a lot.

Looking good guys! Nice job. Did you think about a balcony I made a raised balcony on my treehouse so that I've got more space inside for the bed and storage etc. Really enjoying this series again with your dad. Been watching since the original pallet cabin.

Should have kept the side hole for a mini door with lock so you got the bigger entrance for moving camp beds in ect that are bulky and keep the floor hatch for keeping out the wind rain when it's bad to move thing in and out store fire wood down the bottom ect

Pallet wood is usually the cheapest, crappiest wood available, mostly poplar. It has huge shinkage and expansion when its humidity changes. it also tends to foul around any metal you put in.
Proper shingling is done with pine or other resin rich woods.

So wonderful Mike and Graham. Can't wait to see the finished product. I bet your kids can't wait to play in it. My cousins and I built a tree house when we were kids and we even had a balcony. I still remember it fondly.

A little garden gate auto latch on the trapdoor so that you could just push it straight open, and it latches itself would be awesome. Also, is this going to have a little stove in it or is it just for the warmer months

Wot fun, eh, Dad But at 13: 01 I think you were wrong. I don't think it was a roe deer; it must have been a RAINdeer.
A grampa will go through just about anything for his grandkids, won't he Good man.

I am so envious that you get to do these projects with your father. I lost my dad when I was 16. But he taught me so much. I wish I could do projects with him still. Enjoy it as long as you can. Good job yall

Wow! Coming along nicely guys! That is going to be one well built tree house, better than a lot of the new homes built in the US now days! Thanks for taking us along with you on this build.

Awesome work Mike & Graeme. Gonna be interesting what type of ladder system / stairs you, are going to construct. Permanent or Retractable. . Will you be adding a wood Stove as well.

The real treasure in these videos is that it's a Father and Son joint. What a lovely and wholesome thing to see. Well done the both of you. These are absolutely brilliant.

Love it so far. just curious tho, the tree house is attached to the tree, what happens when the winds get strong, the tree swaying could weaken the structure
