looking at the video with 2 hats on former search and rescue and serving emergency nurse- Ryan is obviously a very skilled and competent craftsman. The fact that he has the correct equipment, knows how to use it and moreso can explain to others how to use it says so so much. We have had a few incidents involving trees here and as Ryan stated if you dont sort a bleed where you are, its often a body recovery, funny seeing the tree move in the way it did reminds me of another tree incident where a glider ended up 80 foot pointing cockpit to the ground, we got the pilot out but getting the glider down looked just like the last shot of the tree vertical: P Also it shows you guys have your head screwed on by knowing when to get advice and experts in, too many folk just think they will have a go and end up injured or worse. again great video and belated happy new year

Great stuff! Just please watch some of your cuts while climbing, crossover cutting is really dangerous if you have any kickback, especially on a caught up tree where the tensions are unpredictable. I had a fellow climber who loved crossing his arm over the chainsaw while holding and he cut his arm, luckily it wasn’t career ending. You probably know this, and I know it’s tempting to do it to save time, but it’s not worth it. Better off just doing a step cut each time to be safe. 17years as a tree surgeon here just for reference and I have an extremely healthy obsession with chainsaw safety haha

Amazing skills from Ryan, very professional, no corner cutting in safety. You are taught how to be careful for a reason, such a great life lesson for everyone. You might think that you are invincible, humans are sadly not no matter how young and fit you are. In an environment like this, caution is very wise.
So glad the tree house was saved, loved how even a trained professional has to deal with the unexpected from time to time.
Hopefully Ryan’s business flourishes even more after this, he deserves it.

Sadly, this is a problem that I’m all too familiar with: we have plenty of problems with downed trees here in Austin.
Not only is this a kind of problem that my late father, professional woodworker, couldn’t did help with sometimes, but this city has had two winter storms that brought down trees across the city, and sometimes the state! (Trees like hackberries and southern live oaks don’t handle freezing well)

An expert arborist is fascinating to watch. To do the job properly they employ the skills, knowledge, equipment and techniques of various other professionals, including lumberjacks, sailors, landscapers, linemen, combat medics, mountain rescue climbers, heavy-lift riggers, highrise window washers, crane operators, silviculture forestry planners, wildlife biologists, etc.

You can drill a hole the stump and put a seeding in it and the seedling will use the old root system for its own speeding up the growth process. I don't know if you can mix species root systems but it seems like it shouldn't be an issue. People regularly graft different kinds of fruits onto the same tree.

Yeah doing work with a chainsaw can be dangerous. A few years ago a friend of mine had a chainsaw slip and went in to his knee. It could have been much worse it just sliced his knee at an angle about 4 or 5 inches long and maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep at it deepest. He was pretty luck all thing considered.

Too many wraps around the capstan plus too much weight directly above, an oversight by the tree surgeon in my opinion. You're lucky the strapped snagged where it did as obviously the trunk tapers as it gets higher, if it had carried on the treehouse would've been flattened.

Very nice work, is Ryan an instructor or teacher in any way If not he should be doing that in conjunction with his tree work. The way that he just shares information without bragging is amazing. Not a lot of people can do that
thanks for sharing

Seeing Ryan's climbing kit there has me very interested, and writing shopping lists in my head! I have a FAR cruder system that I developed for rope ascending trees for high-level geocaches, works in a similar fashion but Ryan's is much more efficient!

Great video, very interesting. I also thought you'd pull the tree over to one side, away from the tree house, and continue to lower it. at 11: 09, guess that's higher risk though and not necessary if you just using it for firewood.

Yupp! That's why you need professionals! That was still scary when it dropped! Had one Barber Chair on me once. Came down on the bar of my saw and ripped it 75 feet away still running.
Good save TA!

For an outdoorsy person that made for an entertaining watch.
As a H&S Manager for an Arboricultural company and an ex handcutter, it was at times, very painful to watch. Shall use it in future Toolbox Talks.

In New York State and other North American areas, it's the Emerald Ash Borer(EAB) that is devastating the ash tree population. It's an invasive green beetle that killing the trees from the inside out.

Ryan knows what he’s doing. I’ve cleared several house lots with my dad and brother in law. Falling trees is no joke. You could be doing it for 30 years and a tree may not fall like you thought.
