I head out to the Forest for a Solo Overnight Camping trip using a low-profile stealth tarp camp setup. It wasn't long before the cold rain came and as a challenge for this trip I tried to use vintage 100 year old tools. When I arrived in the woods I chose a good spot to camp in a small clearing in the forest. I set the tarp up between two pine trees and knowing that rain was in the forecast, I set the tarp up low to the ground to minimise the cold wind chill. This was filmed beginning of February so winter was in full swing in the UK. The Challenge was to try and use some old vintage gear to process firewood, light the fire and for general use around camp. It wasn't easy, as I soon found out when the axe head nearly came off when chopping wood. At one point a huge downpour of rain came, which almost got the shelter soaked. I cooked up some rice on the fire and collected more firewood for night. Throughout the video I show how to set up a tarp, how to light a fire with natural materials and other winter camping and bushcraft tips. The following morning I had to get the fire going again, this time by traditional flint and steel. I cooked up some bacon and made a fresh cup of coffee Hope you guys enjoy the adventure

why just ASSUME that ground will be dry when it's raining? often the ground is soaked-muddy. A shelter should include a hammock, whenever possible. You can sleep sitting in a sling chair, made out of a hammock, so you only need ONE (fairly large) tree, if you've had sense enough to bring some 10mg Ambien tablets. :-) Nothing else that small, lw, and cheap will be anything like as much help to you as the 5+ solid hours of sleep that you'll get, in some pretty bad conditions If you want stealth, dont set up camp until after dark, and dont show a light. A set of 60 kid's airsoft goggles will show you enough to set up camp.

Great video like always Mike Guys like you and Joe Robinet have inspired me to get into bushcraft, and today I went out for my second day trip. I Started to make a shelter and made my first ever fire with a flint and steel In the middle of a snow covered Canadian winter no less. Thanks for giving me the guts to get off my butt and get out of my apartment and start enjoying some outdoor fun again. As always Ill be watching your next video

Two things. Thing number one, you like to try new beers, I'm not sure how to get a beer over to you from the states however if you ever come across a tallboy called COLD SMOKE brewed out of Missoula Montana I do believe you'll love itThing number 2, notice a ring on your finger but have never seen the mrs. out camping with you. You should talk her into a video or two of you guys out camping as a couple. Keep up the good work

I really like that shelter I have made and used it and I think for one it is most handy and light weight. It is easy to reflect heat into and I just think it is maybe the best. Well I didn't like the one an army ranger showed me with a poncho and a sapling and pinned on all corners bit it's more get out of the rain quick no real comfort at all survival mode. Love you video as always Mike

Hey mike check out Reallybigmonkey1. it's a father and son in the US. The guy makes a lot of his own stuff, like grills and tarps and stuff like that. Just know that what you and your DAD have is something special. Lost my dad when I was in early teens and my son isn't in to any of the bushcraft/camping type stuff. My grandson is getting to the age where we can start having outdoor adventures. All the best

Hey I'm really enjoying your videos and I love to unwind with you at the end of the day Just wondering, what are your thoughts regarding the legality of wild camping in the UK? I really want to do some camping of my own but how do I do it responsibly and legally? I'm based up in York at the moment and we've got some beautiful countryside nearby that I'm keen to explore. Thanks in advance, mate: )

Not sure how it is there but here, there has been known to be forest fires from the trees igniting from the roots up. This would take certain circumstances Im sure. (Maybe underground gases oils other ignitables) We tend to try to put large flat rocks under our fires or such things as that. Yea they found trees literally burning from the inside out.

Mike mentioned putting his jacket on to keep his wool shirt dry when it rains. Although wet clothes are horrible, I remember reading in Trout and Salmon magazine that When wool is 100% Saturday it still holds 80% of its heat keeping capabilities. I don't know if that's useful to anyone, but I hope you found it interesting at least.

New sub here. I really enjoyed this video. I miss England as I was born and raised there, but left in 2004 for a move to the States. I now live in a small town in Alabama. I look forward to catching up with the old and the new videos. Btw i really miss REAL BACON. Thanks again for my England fix at bedtime and safe travels.
