Metal Detecting for Treasure in my Woodland!

This is the first time I have ever gone metal detecting! So I decided to go treasure hunting in my woodland to see what ancient treasure I could find! Bonnie: Dig everything! That lead with the numbers is interesting. A close up would help you get a better ID. When your metal detecting, don't be afraid to chase the nails and rubbish. You will never learn more about your plot of land than when you metal detect it. If you keep a journal or map of your finds, later when you have amassed a lot of finds you can start to see the lay of the land. Where the foot paths were and structures.

Swing the detector left to right From your 9 o'clock to your 3 o'clock and low to the ground, one swing, one step! Watch a few videos and see how we do it, I have a few video of me detecting. Even low numbers can be good items. Just learn what each number is when you find an item and you will soon figure it out!

Ohhh mate you have gone down the rabbit hole. I assure you you will get addicted to this. Now everywhere you go you'll be asking yourself. I wonder what's down there. Little hint always recheck your dig hole once you get the initial find out. There may be something else

Don't discount signals that sound the same as shotgun cartridges. Some coins give off the same signal. Practice with various coins and rings so you get to the various sounds. The only signals I would ignore are iron (ferrous) signals.

I was sure you'd at least find King Arthur's crown or some other this or that. ;-) I prefer metal detecting on beaches because of the mountains of gold hidden there. The problem is that I can only seem to find the valleys.

my only suggestion is swinging the coil evenly across the ground left and right because the coil needs to be moving to really get the signals well. awesome to see ya join the hobby! love your videos! good luck!

what area of the world do you live by and what are the possible things you could find?
Like, just junk/garbage or like metal resources, any gold possibilities?

reply

See if there is a club nearby. They often get special permisions to detect prime spots.
You will also get help learning the hobby faster! Good luck.

if it's under 10 it's not worth digging. Sure it is, it's junk, dig it up and get rid of it, you don't want junk all over your woodland.

Every find is treasure to someone. Glad to see you enjoyed your first go at detecting, we hope you find it to be as addictive as we do.
