Camping in the Woods like Robin Hood - Military Poncho Tent. Start your free trial today at to get 10% off your first purchase. I head off into the woods for an overnight solo camping trip using my military poncho tent or Polish Lavvu as it is known as. This small canvas tent is great for camping in all conditions. I usually set the tent up with a centre pole made from a stick, however, this time I do it differently. Using some Primitive Bushcraft, I dig for tree roots and use these as natural cordage to tie together a tripod which supports the tent from the top and eliminates the need for a centre pole. This gives me much more room in the tent for my sleeping pad and backpack gear etc. I gather some firewood, light a fire and cook up a steak on the grill over the camp fire. I then talk about some of the gear that I use. The forest is so silent at night, it was eerily quiet, until the owls started hooting later in the evening. Listening to nature asmr was a great way for me to fall asleep. The following morning, I got the fire going again with some feather sticks and a ferro rod. Using some

Excellent video I can't wait to see more video's including Jack's. When he gets mature enough for you to take him along he may steal your show. I have been interested in camping for quiet some time now. I have always leaned towards bigger tents but now I see smaller is better for retaining heat. I may get a dual lava system and go it alone. Not to many people share my enthusiasm of the great outdoors like I do, so I'll do ir on my own. I have learned so much by watching your video's. Thanks.

Content for your website. Would be cool to see an 'Instruction' page maybe where you have different types of knots and how to make them maybe with a few picture examples. You can have a informational pages on what type of tents or sleeping bags for what temperatures. Bushcraft, what plants bushes or trees you can consume or use and in what ways and how. For people who want to learn by reading and seeing a few pic examples. In a nutshell: A manual for everything in a basic way i guess.

I would love a gear list on your site recording gear, the clothes (trousers, boots), bags and so on. You talk about the tents and cooking gear a lot, but not the others so much. I also have a question Ive not yet found an answer to: the woods that you built the cabin in, and the bushcraft camp: is that public land people don't visit much, or privately owned land (whether yours or someone else's) that you have permission to use?

Just shows that you don't need much to be out in the woods. Can I ask where you got your bound journal from? I do like that a lot and I am trying to put off making one as I have enough on my plate lol. PS I would be interested in hearing your take on some prototypes I am working on. They are my last couple of videos so far and who knows, I could potentially send you stuff for review. Good video Mike, cheers, Subbed

cool video m8, watched TA Fishing for years and thought I'd check out your videos. Makes me wanna get outside and just forget about the world and my worries if for a moment. I know you probably don't care but you should take some sea salt with u to pack into your steak, like 30 mins before u cook it, it penetrates the steak and helps tenderise it as well as making it more tasty. sure you know this but ye cool videos m8

I've seen allot of survival videos and your the first person I've ever seen make lighting a fire with flint and steel look easy. Many YouTube survivalists do it every video even though they have a lighter in there pocket and struggle forever trying to light the fire but you spend a few minutes doing prep work and light the fire instantly everytime. I'm impressed Love the video keep it up Thank you

Ive been wondering about cooking over an open fire in a coniferous forest. Does evergreen wood impart an odd, or unpleasant flavor to food? I live where we have both evergreen and hardwood trees, but am moving soon to northern Washington, where Ill have pretty much just conifers. Been wondering how thats going to affect my campfire cooking, as Im accustomed to cooking only with hardwood.

I've just bought one of those Polish tents off ebay. Been a bit tricky figuring out how to pitch it properly cos there's no instructions with it. But still, its' very good and like you say, versatile. I like the fact that you can just use one of the ponchos as a shelter if you want. I had'nt figured out how to string it up from the top so that was a very useful video. Thanks.

I used the U. S. Army version of the two poncho shelters throughout Vietnam and usually slept quite comfortably. Those shelters Ideally consisted of two ponchos, three empty mortar round boxes, one or two poncho liners, and an air mattress. However, we usually had to wait until later in the evening to fall asleep as contact usually initiated around 8: 00 PM.

Great video Have a Rip Stop Nylon Poncho/Tarp with Grommets and Double Sided Snaps. The only con is the tag says Made in China This Poncho/Tarp is great for a Day Pack with four MSR Aluminium T Stakes and Par Cord. A Day Pack with The Ten Essentials by the Seattle Mountaineers will keep you safe overnight and bring you home the next day. tjl
