Bushcraft Camp - Destroying Structures ready for Wood Roof Shelter Build

I head to my bushcraft camp in the woods to destroy some structures and make space for the big wood roof build which will be in Bushcraft Camp Update 15. Building the roof is a big project, so it will need time to plan for resources. First I will need to build a log frame, and then thinking about roofing materials. In this video I decided to destroy the dog house and small log store inside the camp. It was taking up too much space inside. I also aim to take down the tiki kitchen which was built in Camp Update 12. This will give me more space to work with when building the roof. The super shelter lean-to is still going strong and is now my primary sleeping area. The small lean-to is a little too small, but I have still done an overnight or two in it and it works fine. It's completely dry under the tarp and moss so I can store any leftover timber in here. I would like to take down a few perimeter walls to allow more air flow into the fire pit of the camp. So despite taking down a few structures, the bushcraft camp will still have: Hunting Tower with Ladder, Primary Lean to shelter, secondary lean to shelter, a fire pit, wood saw horse, log chopping area and a few perimeter walls. It's been a great adventure so far with many lessons learned along the way, I hope you guys enjoy this one and be sure to subscribe and hit the bell notification to get notified when I next upload Cheers - Mike Watch the FULL CAMP BUILD IN ONE VIDEO: Watch each individual detailed episode from Ep1-14

All I can see is a man, and sometimes his dad, having fun in the woods, building a useful camp with reclaimed materials. Dead fallen trees would eventually rot, break apart, and become soil. Now, you have a camp that can protect you from the elements, watch nature, and hunt when its in season. You have permission to be there, you're not putting a strain on the environment around you, and not leaving anything behind that nature can't take care of on its own. That is a lifestyle that is completely opposite of city dwellers, who leave garbage anywhere, pile up plastic in landfills (local issue) burn tires for fuel in concrete plants (but told better then coal, and continue to 'develop civilization'. I prefer your lifestyle of the outdoors compared to mine. So, the only negative thing I can think of is that I'm a bit jealous of how close you can get to an almost completely basic, and non invasive life. Land is my issue, but its not a dream. Thanks to your videos, its now a goal.

Is there no alternative to U-TOOB? The restrictions are ridiculous Meat comes from animals, most of us eat it. Don't start in on me VEGANS, plants are living organisms too, and you kill them by the bucket loads. Seeing hard working Vloggers dancing around these stoopid de-monetization issues is super frustrating Let folks post what they want, let folks watch what they find interesting. If you don't like it or find it offensive. don't watch it But I'm betting that there are more who would like the video than those that dislike. U-Toob needs to let the information flow, that is their only role. People can decide what information they want to have flow onto their screens. Keep at it Mike.

Cheers, my friend. Sitting here in Minnesota watching your video and getting a post card ready to mail to you. Fret not about the camp and the trolls. Your camp building is like a lesson to the lot of us. It is a knowledge that you are passing on. I view all of your video's as if I was reading a book. Learning from it every time. A famous person once said 5 years from now you will be at exactly the same place, doing the same thing, but for the books you read and the people you meet. It took me a while to figure that one out. Your video's are like books, and your kind heart makes me a better person getting to know you thru them. Keep them coming brother and we will keep watching.

Mike, I have been looking on and off for information about your Dad's tactical folder with the protractor on the blade and a toothed section on the spine. Spanish maker Marto (Toledo) offered a Marto Brewer Explora in the 1980s. The protractor is said to be an inclinometer for estimating elevations of topography, although the clearly marked N shows its use in one method of direction finding. The hole in the blade probably worked with something on an original scabbard that could combine to make a hinged wire cutter. Aside from the blade, the Marto Exlplora does not closely resemble your Dad's knife but the idea of a Toledo maker might be a lead.

Opening up camp is a great idea. Yes animals aren't an issue. But I think reflective heat, and containing the warmth in camp from a central hearth and airflow, combined with utilising space will be an important balance. can't wait to see what you come up with Mike. Side note; what about a multi faceted roof design with an opening in the top centred over the fire pit? It will have a teepee effect, venting smoke and giving the encapsulated benifits of reflected heat and trapping the warmth but venting smoke, good ventilation properties. You could moss top each flat facet of the roof. just a thought. great work, loving your content.

shelter does look so much bigger and cleaner without that lil wood shed inside. as far as the tikki shelter goes. it may be comming down shortly BUT. once the roof is up. so to can the tikki shelter go back up; ). saw the notification for the skinning video. came a t a time when that was not something I needed to see. so I used common sense and didnt watch it. the joys of google forcing their twisted morals on everyone else and messing them making money while they make loads off of the ad revenue and trend selling to larger companies. it's about time they started paying people for making them more money

Why don't some people just mind their own business, do they come here just to criticize or bully? My God, what a pity they think that way. Obviously they need to be educated on dead wood, those people don't know what they're talking about, man they need to get a life. Sorry about Youtube's policies, I know all about it, I was a publisher with Amazon, no money there, unless you have a store, three years deep into it, I eventually gave up, however I'm getting on in age, it was stress I wasn't willing to take. I learnt a lot from it all, good experience over all. Cheerios

Dear Mike, i have really enjoyed the videos you've made. I have learned a lot from watching them. The video last week about processing the deer was very helpful. So much knowledge and skill has been shared with us viewers that we can use in our own adventures and outdoor activities. These skills will die out unless people like you share them and pass these skills on to the next generation. So much has been lost already. Keep up the good work Thank you so much for your contributions. - Todd Summerville GA, USA

Hay Mike. I have loved following your build and must say I am intrigued as to how you will make the roof. Sounds like a massive undertaking and I really hope it works well. Any advice for someone just starting to venture into publicising their bushcraft. I am in the UK and just starting workshops and videos and would love to gain some wisdom from your experiences. It's had to find UK bushcrafters to look up to amongst all the American people doing it. Best wishes.

I think I first found you when you were making the cooking crane. I was like What the fck is this guy doing? and it turned out great of course. I don't care what Survival Russia thinks of your camp, it's just some fun stuff -- CAPITAL PERIOD. Anyway, I think if your gonna put a roof over this that opening the walls up some will be great for convection however I would consider opening it up in the leeward wall to make things better in winter. Just a thought.
