Log Cabin in the Mountains with Living Roof: 10 Days in the Scottish Highlands

I travel to Scotland to stay in a log cabin with a living roof of moss and grass. I walk alone amongst the moss covered enchanted forest. Travelling up a small mountain river, hopping across boulders trying to film the elusive red squirrel and beautiful fall/autumn colours on the trees. Wild Deer roam past the log cabin in this pristine mountain wilderness. I get a fire going in the log cabin open woodstove and give a tour of this cosy, rustic log cabin in the wild. I am spending the next 10 days in the highlands of Scotland, amongst the shadows of the Mountains in the Cairngorms National Park. Four of those days are spent on a canoe expedition down the river Spey, but that video will follow this one. For the rest of the time, I am with my wife, dog and friends Matt and Tracy and their two dogs. Thanks for joining me on this Scotland adventure

I grew up in the US and had the good fortune to visit most of our national parks and many of our thousands of state parks. Unbelievable beauty, spectacular views. I have been astonished when my English friends have told me they have never been to Scotland. Been there, twice, and always think about it for years. After 40 years of travel, all over the world, I would return to Scotland in a heart beat, the next opportunity I have. It is mystical, magical and incredibly beautiful. The food is some of the best in the world, from Angus, grass fed beef, to incredible, fresh fish and sea food. And the aged, single malt scotch. Yummy fresh veggies. The flavors of Scotland make me weep. And. The people are kind, sweet and thoughtful. Probably the best part. Go

My Home land Bonnie Scotland. Been all over mostly & that is the only reason i have never been abroad. I have been to England, lived In Surrey, Shildon & Newcastle, but always found my way home though. If you have never been to the Isle of Arran, well it is Awesome & full of red Squirrel. All the animals was introduced, they did not add fox nor the grey Squirrel lol, why should they. Anyways lo0ked like a awesome time.

If you haven't been to the west coast then I can't recommend it enough. It's like the rest of Scotland except the views are that much more stunning, you can see for miles and the sunsets are the best in the UK by far. Also the sailing and kayaking is great, the seals are super friendly. There's a reason Scotland was voted the most beautiful country in the world.

Thank you for sharing your living roof cabin in that National Park in Scotland. Love the tree's and your effort to show the Red Squirrel. I heard about the mess made by bringing in the North American grey squirrel into England and beyond. Good to see your face safe and mostly sound from your 4 day canoe trip. Will look for that. Hi Mike, Lovely to see you up here in Scotland. I bet you feel refreshed with all that fresh air. The environment you visited is so Oxygenated and it always makes me sleep well after a day out in nature here, usually by the Sea. Silence is Golden. I hope yourself and Graeme are both well. Much fondness, both always in my thoughts when i go Fishing. Steve in Fife.

A good place to photograph & video red squirrels is Aira Force near Ullswater. Go 1st thing in the morning, before the dog walkers & the tourist groups, when the squirrels come out to feed. There is a good spot near the car park, in a small clearing, with benches. Sit on the bench facing the bird box & wait. U shouldnt have to wait long.

Hey Mike, I have to admit I have been having a go doing other projects and have not sat to watch what you and the OLDMAN have been exploring. My Ancestry says I am 83% European and Scottish so seeing you in Scotland is very special to me. I cant wait to see your videos of your trip. So happy to see you fit & well. Cheers Mike.
