Building a Viking House: Perimeter Walls & Raised Bed

We continue building the bushcraft viking house with turf roof. In this episode we finish the perimeter walls using woven hazel sticks. We trim them to size and close up the gable ends of the tiny house. We then build a simple raised bed in there ready for the first overnight camp With spring approaching soon, we are hoping the grass roof will begin to grow again maxine: How about a couple of Viking chairs for the porch to keep with the theme, While watching you put the bed together I thought Graeme might like a rope bed fancy having a go at making one it might be a bit more comfortable than those logs to sleep on And on another note have you ever tried the Swedish log fire. Can't wait for the next build but I have to say the pallet shed is still my favourite but I'm glad the thatch and the turf held up with the storms

When you are cutting hurdles to shape, get a couple of pieces of pallet wood place one behind and one in front on the waste side of the cut line, screw through the hurdle from one slat to the other while you are cutting to use as a guide, the slats make cutting much easier, remove after cutting. You can also use thin withes to bind the cut ends for stability.

The reason you, and dad are good here and on TA Fishing is the honest nature of how you do it. There is humor, and humanity to it. You don't come off like you're teaching, you do things, explain, admit when you are in uncharted waters, and don't clutter up the activity with tons of narration.

Would you consider putting a second hurdle wall around the outside (or inside) and filling the gap with leaf litter/ferns etc to make it windproof? Also could you double up roof moss thickness to make it more waterproof? Certainly no criticism Very impressive All power to your arms

Great to see your dad, surreptitiously, out again I had fried egg and Bayonne ham on English Muffins for lunch today: used Mayonnaise and mustard as my sauce. MY TAKE on this project: it is almost 'one hurdle after another Those airy walls would be most welcome in warmer weather

I love that theres a small hamlet growing in the middle of these woods. I know Ive joked before that your videos are manly ASMR, but they really are quite calming and relaxing. Theres a very homey energy to you working in the woods that puts me immediately at ease.

i would love to see you build a Viking Longhouse. a bit bigger project but would be awesome. also you could possibly rent it out for partys and such. bet a viking themed stag party would be really popular. just throwing the idea out there.

Gads It kills me when you cook in these videos Everything looks so good I have to pause it and go saute some meat Even the pile of sandwich you made in this one. As my dad used to say, it'll look worse when you're finished with it

I think your village, because of the Celtic/Nordic theme needs a mead hall. And or a blacksmith forge. Send my thoughts to the floods over there cause I know its been bad here in Tennessee, USA as well.
