Building a Nature Cabin: The Bird Hide - Off Grid Project (PART 2)

We continue to build the off grid nature cabin. This time we build the wall frame of the bird hide, using studs and noggins. We nailed these together. The rear wall has a window and the front of the cabin will be where the door goes. We also reinforced the foundations on solid slates so that the logs don't wick up the moisture from the ground. Once the wall frames were finished we then placed them on the foundation and screwed them together. The nature cabin is coming together! Stay tuned for part 3 soon where we focus on the roof. bdctrans70: Great video again. I would recommend that if you do have strong winds, get the roof on first and then the entry wall. But with all of that garlic, I would pick a bunch of those leaves and dry them, then run them through a spice grinder or food processor to make wild garlic powder! Any of those natural herbs that are growing there, pick some and dry them. Love seeing you two and Jacks together sharing some time together!

Love it and it'll will be great I'm sure, sadly my advise would be to add some corrosion outdoor Turbo screws size 6 & 110mm we don't want to see it crumble when the roof has 4 of snow on it. Those 3 screws you used to fix all the walls to the 18mm moisture chipboard and to the Ash post are no way long enough. - just saying.

Dude looks like great work, and I mean that. But with all that work and quality craftsmanship, why for gods sake wouldnt you put down 30 in concrete footers. I know its a temporary structure. But youve gone this far, you might as well think about a somewhat decent foundation.

Amazing build. Once it's fully built its gonna be heavy! Make sure your happy with the floor posts as they seem to be the main factor that's going to determine how long the hide lasts! I personally would use reclaimed bricks or some sort of stacked flag stones.

You mentioned you had some really bad storms this past year. How did the round house and the Viking and all your other structures over in the bushcraft woods fare? I d do the roof first as that floor looks like a particular board and it will melt.

I'd say the roof, w/o a doubt. You could then keep working on the interior if it should rain. Can't wait to see the future wildlife vids. Oh, will you at least have heat/stove of some sort, for future cold weather, when finished?

I'm really enjoying these videos Mike and you and Graeme remind me so much of myself and my Dad working together. Same sense of humour even. And no doubts off camera putting the world to rights. Keep up the good work!

I think its awesome that the giant ash tree is still a part of the woodland. I'm voting for roof. Even a little bit of overhang will keep at least part of the walls out of the rain as well as the floor.
