ARKANSAS: Dirt Poor Rural Towns That Are Full Of Surprises Oh thank you so much for taking us to the Campbell Cemetery! (Yes, thats him singing and its so cool) Yes, his wife (3rd I think) Kim is still living. Shes only a couple months older than me so why not! Coincidence that I listened to Kims Audiobook telling about Glens life and last years caring for him, and I saw the documentary of his last tour just recently. The brain is so amazing because he was having trouble tying his shoes and then got on stage and when he ever started playing the guitar in all its intricacies I was just blown away! I had to just take a deep breath and look on in awe! But I thought hed be buried in Phoenix or California, not near the ancestral home in Arkansas so very interesting!

It’s REALLY hard to believe the USA is the most powerful country in the world with scenery like what you bring to us in all these destroyed and left-behind rural areas.
Their REALLY IS a top one-percent in the USA and then there’s everyone elsemany whom live a life as these impoverished and suffering rural areas.
Companies have exported all the blue collar jobs to mexico and communist china and left the founding people of said companies high and dry.
Meanwhile, communist china is becoming the wealthiest and most powerful country because of the fact. Sickening.

You mention statistics a lot. Maybe you can say what people do for medical attention. Many older people looking to relocate ask that first question. You come across some pretty cool areas that would be great for an older person. What happens when someone has a major heart attack or bad accident, I'm sure most of these places have no major hospital and the corner health clinic closes at 4 and closed on Sunday. I wonder what the survival rate is Not being a wise guy, I'm on my 5th year because I was 10 minutes to a hospital. Great videos by the way.

It occurred to me that a club for widows and widowers should be formed. Then I figured out that in a town this size they all know each other already anyway. Also I do remember Glen Campbell mentioning that he was from the town of Dee-Light, Arkansas. My parents had a cattle ranch in southern Missouri, and these towns in Arkansas are very similar to the towns there. Every town developed around a town square, it seems.

I've been to the Crater of Diamonds. I took my granddaughter, but we didn't find one. The state park is very nice though. Arkansas state parks are all very nice. I would love to go back to the Crater of Diamonds someday. I didn't know about Glen Campbell's grave though. I grew up listening to him. That was so cool when the music started playing! Just awesome!

David Anderson was a frequent visitor to the Crater of the Diamonds State Park, when, on March 4, his trip broke records. Anderson, from Murfreesboro, Arkansas, was sifting through soil in the West Drain area when he discovered the largest diamond found in the park since September 2021, officials said.
And he didn’t initially believe it was a diamond, he said.

EVERY Member of Congress should be watching these videos. make me angry that many of those in congress. have high earnings. and interest off those incomes. and yet this If you represent these poorest towns what on earth are you doing on thier behalf shocking. just shocking that in America today. this is the best that can be done.

Delight in name only. Loved Glen Campbell and loved his music. Surprised it had a gas station and family dollar.
Wow, Billstown is just a grease spot on the map.
Cool family cemetery and grave.
I also learn a lot from you Joe from your road trips.
Didn't see many folk in the car park carrying picks and shovels

Billstown is full of his relatives. Brothers, sisters, and their kids. The entire family is full of music and love. Yes, it’s Glen singing. Many times you can find one of his brothers, Shorty, in the cemetery tending to the graves. If you’re lucky he will sing you a song. The entire family are truly gems of Arkansas.

Another fantastic slice of rural America off the beaten path. Glen was really the first country artist to hit the pop charts on a regular basis in the 1960s with classic hits like By The Time I Get To Phoenix, Gentle On MY Mind, Galveston and the haunting Wichita Lineman. Thank you for the tour.

Arthur Lee Hunnicutt was a famous actor in many movies and TV shows. He Is buried in Mansfield Arkansas, my home town. Plus Mansfield Arkansas is one of the only towns in the US that has cemetery with a US highway running right through the middle of it. Could you do a show on my home town

I'm planning on moving to Arkansas within the next couple of months I'm looking forward to leaving Illinois for warmer weather. I would probably be booking out of the cemetery if I was standing in the cemetery not hearing anything but birds and all of a sudden music starts playing lol

My mother was born and raised in Desha county Arkansas. I was there in 1983 I think. Nothing much there and there still isn’t today. My grandfather lived in pine bluff and I still have family in Pulaski. We were out there last year around this time. Love going there
reply

Not sure if you've been there yet, but you should go to Phillips County on the Mississippi. They lost 24% of their population from 2010-2020, and about 66% since 1950. The poverty rate is also 33%. It would be really cool to see what this county looks like.

Glen's golfing buddy was Alice Cooper, who may have put those golf balls there. It's a very laid-back area where life isn't too fast. Drive a bit further north and you get into the foothills of the Ozarks, and gets quite mountainous from there.

OmG regular gas here in Kauai, Hawaii is 5. 60 per gallon. Median home value is 900k. I am leaving. Can’t afford life here. Only rich people buy houses here now and locals are all leaving for a more affordable place to raise their kids.

During late 70's I was a foreign student from India studying in LA. I was a huge fan of Glenn Campbell and never missed from buying his records on the day of release. I would save money for his albums. Gambler was one his best albums

All these Widows/Widowers in these towns make me think they purposely don't remarry since it would reduce the social security income each receives alone. Kinda sad in a way, But I'm sure they still shack up!

Visiting the resting place of Glenn Campbell is historical. A tear fell listening to him singing Amazing Grace, the motion sensor device is a brilliant idea commemorating his musical legacy

To whoever asked the question about Glen Campbell being Jewish (can't find your comment right now, perhaps his wife is since the Star of David is on her side next to her name.

My Grandfather was originally from around Amity in a place called Alpine I think. He moved away in the 20s or 30s but I believe most of his family remained in the area.

A man visiting an Arkansas state park unearthed a 3. 29 carat diamond while sifting through the dirt, officials recently announced.
Thought of this video and you guys!

Glen Campbell's wife was the former prime minister of Canada. Plus much more she has done in acting and more. She is the only female that was prime minister of Canada.
reply

Yes. That was Glenn Campbell singing Amazing Grace during a concert in Souix Falls South Dakota. It was also him playing the bag pipes in that song. He was one of 12 kids.

Delight proper is a very small town by area. There are many living close by outside the city limits. Most of them are descendants of those who lived there in the 50s.
reply

You should visit Carlisle, Lonoke, and Hazen Arkansas! All in the same area. Nicks BBQ, king Kat cratering, the grumpy rabbit, just a few things that are in the town.
reply

Great video, but why you do not go to the local bar go meet and interview people or even go out at the weekend and see where people are hanging out, dancing, etc
reply

Nice job! Delight seemed very near and orderly; well cared for. Doesn’t seem to be left to die like many of the rural towns we’ve seen on your travels.
reply

I’m live in south central Arkansas. Thank you for the stop in Delight and showing us the Glen Campbell burial sight. Very interesting. Always enjoy your travels.

I grew up in Glenwood Arkansas 20 years ago. Used to be at Billy’s house of guitar with my grandpa every Tuesday. Crazy that it has not changed much at all

Think it was 1991 or 92 & went by train on Amtrak. By far- the poorest place was Texarkana & surrounding area. Cleveland Ohio & nearby had lot of poverty too.

I live in Missouri and have traveled to Arkansas for business and pleasure many times. Arkansas is called the natural state because of it's natural beauty!

He was so much more than he was ever acknowledged for. Especially as a song writer and musician. He taught so many to play and wrote so many great songs.
reply

Shirley Strawn was the one who found that diamond. She actually sold it back to the park for like 30 grand. Im sure she kicks herself for that now.
