Gotta give thumbs up bc every tidbit of this kind of info goes a long way.
However, re Timberline I have better info. for y'all
Mount Hood Express bus (MHX) write that down.
Cheap cheap bus runs from Timberline Lodge westward downhill along hwy 26. This bus runs 6x a day (more for ski season, 7 days a week.
One way is only 2 and it goes all the way to Sandy, OR which has Safeway, lots of fast food (great WiFi with USBs at Wendys, a new Goodwill store, public library and my favorite - Grocery Outlet (bargain market - groceries and more)
For those who want cant spare an extra couple hours there are Thriftway stores at Rhododendron (roady) and Welches which also has the only library on the mountain.
Basically, no need for package sending - stores have much longer hours than the post offices there.
For those with time to spare, 5 gets you a day pass which includes the Sandy Area Metro (SAM) bus which takes you to Gresham transit center which is a MAX station - Portland's Metro Area Express light rail. 5 day pass for that also.
This might be a good choice if needing major gear replacements. My choice is Sportsman's Warehouse which has a 5% discount for military vets.

So, as I was watching your vid on the 5 things you wished you had on the PCT and you talked about better gloves. I was like. why didn't she make a quick trip to Seattle. then I watched this vid and turns out you did get into Seattle. so. I am surprised you did not go to maybe at least REI or Dick's Sport store for the gloves. Seattle is the home town for REI. and their Flagship store is ion downtown Seattle. So, for those that are looking to do PCT in the future. keep this in mind. Seattle is also the home of Amazon, and they may have been able to get supplies to you in a reasonable time. This includes tent repair supplies. or just a new tent.

At Timberline Lodge, you can hitchhike down about 6 miles into Government Camp (Govy. There are usually quite a lot of people going up and down in cars on a daily basis. You can then walk around the entirety of the town, and go to a pretty sufficient general store, Govy General. We usually see some hikers around the town throughout the summer. There is also a very small post office down the road and a few good restaurants, and some hotels. I do not know about extra fees for the post office but it does exist.

Best stuff I ever had in my boxes on AT, was home dehydrated veggies to add to whatever I bought in town. I also stumbled across a jerky company store that sold huge bags of 'jerky bits' which were basically those bits at the bottom of the bag that fell off during processing. I vacuum sealed these into small portions and ended up liking them better than dried hamburger as they added more flavor and salt. Veggies and bits made my Ramen a filling soup. I even dried salsa and olives and other tasty add ins.

I'm from Canada and plan to do the PCT in the next couple of years. I'm thinking of resupplying as I go bc I'm vegan (thank you for that idea, Dixie! It'd be so much cheaper and more flexible than bringing pre-made boxes over the border, and mailing them all out right away. Do you guys know where a good, first resupply point would be near the southern border? I haven't been to the States much before.

This is a great video with helpful advice, but one thing it doesn't take into account is anyone who follows a specific diet or has allergies. As a vegan, I have a feeling that I'd have to be way more prepared than the average person to ensure that I always have options that don't have meat, dairy, eggs. etc. Some of the small towns look like they wouldn't have many plant based options.

Can somebody here briefly explain to me how this resupply system works in the US? In Norway we don't have a system like that i believe where you 'order' something and have it shipped to a specific post office and have it wait for you there for an unknown time. We simply have to buy new stuff from the food store when it comes to hiking vast distances.

I noticed in your resupply location suggestions you had a large gap of no resupply boxes sent between Warner Springs and Kennedy Meadows, about 600 miles of no boxes sent, I am assuming you had good success in towns finding good resupply in that area, did you have any places between there that you would add if you thought it would be a good idea?

Sounds like a plan. How about breaking up and sending a couple the 24 pack of bars to several different locations verses sending the entire box to one location? Just a thought. I agree, what sounds good to eat today, might not taste great tomorrow. Skillet

If you send a package priority, it arrives a couple of days later on the trail. If you wanted to send it further ahead (say a couple of weeks, how much would that cost? I checked the postal website but couldn't really find it.
