no one would just get out of their car and start hiking the AT. must prep and practice. /i have fed people that out-walked me. most people get hungry while buying those retort meals. they forgot the cardinal rule: COOK one in your back yard before you go! EVERYTHING YOU NEED THERE YOU WILL NEED IN YOUR COOK BAG! i carry a spare MRE spoon.

Well done, it takes some huevos(wether they be inside or out) to address some of these subjects. I've just gotten done doing a 2 week backpack trip and its interesting how easily you adapt to being dirty and unkept. Personally I do 4 days to a pare of undies but only two days to a pair of socks. to each their own.

About the plastic cover on fuel tanks, those should be kept on when not in use. Other wise the burner will become plugged with dirt. Also the valve on the tank gets dirty and will leak fuel, possiible fire hazzard. I've had both happen to me! Not the fire. Happy trails!

Talking about anti fogging on your glasses Barney Bubblegum Toothpaste works awesome! smear the toothpaste on your glasses and then rinse it off with water. This is NOT a joke! It works awesome. Used it in my dive mask, learned it at Navy Dive School.

To the butt sweat commando hikers, with chafing issues, I have heard that nylons were worn by soldiers in hot/wet climates who could get them in the mail. It was what worked, also prevented leeches getting on their legs, but they wore out fast.

If you want good menstrual stuff, a menstrual cup is fantastic. I've been using a mooncup for two decades now and it's what's in my pack. You can use liners for extra security but not even hugely needed. And better, no trash.

In summer of 1995 I section hiked the northern part of the AT from the Delaware Water Gap and OMG did I STINK! Funny thing was, the trail-chicks seemed to find it attractive, I always knew women are weird but WOW!
