I have read that apparently in this situation, the best thing to ward off the bear is to fling poo at it, taking careful aim for the face and in particular, the nose.

Old joke: If in Grizzly country, always carry pepper spray and wear a small bell. Also look out for bear scat to tell it you are in griz country. Black and Brown bears scat will have berries and seeds in it. Grizzly scat will have small bells and smell like pepper.

Did you ever got o Opryland as a little girl? They had a grizzly bear ride and it made me terrified of grizly and I hated that ride. It did have the bright red light bulb eyes. I know you're from the south so I thought you maybe had been to Opryland!

Just recently my wife gave me a birthday card with the same saying on it as on Dixie's T shirt but with one addition; it said what doesn't kill you will make you stronger, except bears, bears will kill you!

At age 62 and lived in north idaho all my life. Your advice on bears and your advice on firearms statistics. It is bad advice and you are very foolish. Especialy hiking at night realy truly dumb.

I spent 4 weeks at a gold pan camp about 12 miles west on Nome, AK. I have a pic of a paw print next to my hat. I also have a pic from a helicopter of a mama with her two cubs.

Come to think of it, I'll just hike through EASTERN Wyoming and Montana to get to Canada. The EASTERN part has elk and antelope, which are really the sweetest wildlife!

at 8: 45. I want to throw in that wolves associated humans with food 25, 000 years ago. Now we have dogs. Just a thought. Foxes will probably our next pets. LOL
