Skiathos Airport, or as I call it the european St. Martin is one of the craziest airports in europe. You are able to watch the airplanes land and depart right behind the runway and some people underestimate the power of a jetblast. The Boeing 717 of Volotea pushed a women in the ocean and I hope the phone is still working. I just noticed that nothing happened to them and both of them were fine after the incident. We visited Skiathos for the third time in three years cause it s a beautiful place in greece with spectacular approaches. I dont know many places where you can get that close to the runway. On sunny days up to 100 people show up behind the runway to watch the planes fly low over the beach. The biggest plane which is allowed to land at Skiathos is a Boeing 757 because the runway only has a lenghts of 1628 meters (5600ft. I already consider the B757 as a heavy plane and that s why it s always an impressive sight to watch the Boeing 757 land and depart at this small airstrip in greece.

I stood there myself in summer 2014 and it really is an excellent spot to observe from The planes passing directly above your head is incredible. The jet blast is a hilarious sensation - even when the engines at idle thrust directly ahead of you it feels like perhaps a 30mph wind in your face (which is something Im very accustomed to living in Scotland, not so accustomed to a hot wind of course. When the engines do spool up to takeoff power its only just possible to not be blown away One thing that was also noticeable was the difference in the force of the jet blast depending on the aircraft taking off. 757 is more dramatic than the 737 or A320 (due to 2x40, 000lbs thrust instead of 2x27, 000lbs thrust. Sadly the runway/apron at Skiathos isnt big enough to handle anything larger than a 757, so youll never be able to experience a wide body there. I would love to try and stand there against the winds created by a 777 with GE90s for instance

I'm noticing a lot of comments about the woman getting blown into the water, but what I think is funnier is that there's a guy there with her who's just filming her and not lifting a finger to try and help.
