2019 Toyota Prius - Now With AWD

2019 brings us a less polarizing Prius design and the same eAWD system as the Japanese market Prius. The one thing that hasn changed however is the extreme fuel economy the model has long been known for. 50 MPG plus AWD? Thats what the 2019 Prius promises

Current gen Prius owner chiming in. AWD makes zero sense for this car. The Prius is about one thing. Maximum efficiency. The car is weird looking. You dont care about that if you own one, because its all about function over form with the Prius. Unlike many cars, which are generalists, the Prius is a specialist. It is designed to do one thing. This car isnt about impressing your neighbors. its about using technology to extract every bit of fuel efficiency. The low ground clearance of the Prius means that its a relatively poor snow belt car, no matter how many wheels are driven. The average Prius owner concerned about inclement weather would be far better served by a set of steel wheels with Blizzaks in winter versus a weak AWD system with all season tires. I put a set of winter tires on my wifes Prius and the thing was a tank in our recent snow and ice fest. SUVs were off in ditches all over the city, and the Prius hummed right through the icy stuff due to the winter rubber. Wife has a 50 mile round trip commute, and is averaging close to 60 MPG with our P. Amazing. Less than a gallon of gas per day to work and back.

Hey, the front and rear end designs are NEW At least now they are simply ugly instead of blindingly hideous like they were last year. The interior still looks like shit, Id get the new Corolla Hybrid instead for something I could live with. Actually, the Corolla Hybrid looks REALLY GOOD inside, so yeah, thats my pick for a quality Hybrid that will last. Thanks Alex for bringing all of this information to the public, we really appreciate this from you. Have a nice day and God Bless.

Put EV mode in the rear and make front wheels powered by IC engine exclusively. Replace stop-start with EV mode. Unless you keep 40+km/h for a while, keep EV mode and dont kick start the IC engine. This will reduce complexities and increase reliability. You have 2 cars in one body. You dont wear out brakes that fast because of regenerative braking, especially in downhill. If you can use the rear motor to help emergency braking, you can achieve shorter braking distance.

Wow. they made it even more ugly. what are they thinking. All they needed to do was bring the current Prius Primes front end with those thin cool LED headlights to ALL models. And the rear light too. God. how boring. And just as the Koreans start bringing a ton of new Hybrids and Plug In Hybrid and EVs to market. Yuck. Ill keep my 08. and trade eventually for a 12 Prius or a new Korean offering.

Well, it will help the TAXI CAB owners in Seattle when it snows there. As long as they use WINTER tires, not all-seasons. I just love how the people in Seattle use their cars as bowling balls during the winter storms I get a great laugh out of watching YouTube videos of them trying to drive in the snow.

This actually looks pretty good, and is so far pretty good overall (big improvement over the overdone pre facelift model while still an underrated car overall. but. are we seriously living in a world where the Prius can have an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) option, while the C-HR doesnt at all?

Now if only they would quit chopping all the Headroom for the backseat this is not ergonomically rational. Her car should comfortably hold people first and foremost even more important than aerodynamics. But thanks Alex

I like the change to the front, but I think the old taillights made more sense with the shape of the rear. Nobody is mentioning the biggest upgrades of all, extending sun visors and repositioning the heated seat buttons.

Thanks for the review Alex. 7 horsepower and? torque. Even for a small car like this that seems nonsensical. It is nice to see they raised the chin of the front grill up a few inches.

I hear rear electric motor, and I immediately think an entire nother axle of power generation I imagine thats what Toyotas engineers thought too, albeit probably in reverse.
