The 2024 Jeep Compass Is An Expensive Mini-Grand Cherokee, But Is It Worth It? Review

With an MSRP that sails right past the competition to over 50, 0000 (in the Trailhawk trim, the question must be asked: is the Jeep Compass the scale model Grand Cherokee of your dreams, or is it just too expensive to consider in the small SUV segment that includes strong values like the Crosstrek and HR-V and reliable efficient models like the Corolla Cross Hybrid?

One of my Good friend who travels for a living to all corners of the country. He is 6 3 tall and almost 300lbs. After 2 weeks of ownership he gave me a ride somewhere and he wished he never bought the compass. He said he was thinking only about the discount they were offering at the time and not about the suv itself. He is way to big to be comfortable he looks show horned in the driver seat. He traded a Kia Sorrento and put 100 s of thousands of miles on it after 4 years and it looked like new still. This compass is all scratched and marred up inside with the black everywhere. He admitted to me he made a big mistake. And he s had many issues.

I was in a 2018 compass Uber a few weeks ago. Something told me to look at the dashboard. Freaking almost over 200, 000 miles. Owner said she never had or has to question its dependability. My mom had a 2020 compass limited for 3 years, near 50, 000 not a hint of an issue. I would buy another compass as a LONG term vehicle in a heart beat. Just like I did both my 2015 Chrysler 200 s, my dad did with his 2009 town and country and my mom did with her 2002 Sebring and 2006 300C. They never ever fail us

Really would like Jeep to make a hybrid version of this for those who aren't interesting in the Hornet's looks, something to compete with the Rav4 and Escape hybrid. Already decided when I go to buy a new vehicle in 2024 Spring, it's going to be hybrid (maybe plug-in) and AWD, so whichever brand that does it best, gets the money I guess. Always feels like the Dodge brand has fun and performance covered but innovative tech, value pricing and efficiency not so much.

I enjoy all your reviews but especially appreciate your always well reasoned, practical if my money were on the line. wind up. Thanks.
As Kia fan / Subaru fan I have never considered a Jeep vehicle due their long standing reputation of expensive to buy, operate, and maintain. That said and to be fair, it isn't all doom and gloom for Jeep owners as two family members had 2002 Jeep Libertys that both were trouble free for over 100, 000 miles!

I ve got a question about seat comfort. Every car seems to get 7, 8, 9, 10. Is the rating really out of 10 if you only really use 4 options?
What would it take to be rated a 5? How about a 3? What would you have to be confronted with to get a seat rating of 1? How much different from a 2 is that REALLY?
The seat rating feels like it could be good, great, and amazing and have the same level of specificity.

Seeing all this now that you so nicely displayed the options of the Jeep and others I am now considering hard to buy the Tesla Model Y. The pricing and reliability plus efficiency are really in the running. Yes it might be 50k but tax incentives plus fuel savings makes it no brainer now! I was really debating a PHEV as well but with gas prices spiking again a Hybrid that needs Gas to recharge batteries is ludacris!

The ONLY, absolutely ONLY, reason to consider this model is if it is offered 10k below MSRP. Yes, 10k. Dealers have tons of them on lots, they don't sell for obvious reasons, so some dealers actually have to offer over 10k discounts to get rid of them. Compass' MSRP just ridiculous, anyone who gets a Compass with a smaller discount makes a mistake.

If you want to offroad, the Crosstrek makes a lot more sense. 35k, durable, reliable, cheap to fix and easy to work on, and is amazing offroad. If you're never going offroad, the Toyota is hard to beat. 50mpg when gas is 6+ is going to save you a fortune.

Alex, If my compass ever pointed to this grossly overpriced CUV, I would replace it immediately. The fact Jeep has VACATED the heart of the CUV market with the discontinuation of the Cherokee ought to serve as food for thought for prospective buyers.

currently own a 2023 Compass Trailhawk with just under 3000 miles, so far i love it. no issues whatsoever. definitely overpriced, but i got a pretty okay deal on mine. loving every minute of it so far! the new powertrain is nice as well.

When will manufactures finally do away with shiny plastic on consumer appliances? I have yet to see a practical purpose for it besides to look nice on something brand new. The day after not so much.

No one will ever accuse the Compass of being best in class
The 2024 Hyundai Kona, for example, is light years better.
If you stay under 30k, it's not a horrible purchase
Just not great.

Alex, Looking 8: 27 at your head and leg room charts, I wonder if you meant to include the HR-V rather than the CR-V? Either way, the Corolla Cross legroom number is atrocious.
reply

I like these and been in a few but i am not a fan of the price in the upper end models. Even thought discounts out there it get price for the size. I like it in general tho.
reply

Absolutely overpriced for a unreliable piece of. There are a Ton of better alternatives. Give me a Toyota or Subaru with a CVT over the junk Jeep makes.
reply

No question, just get the Kona with the 1. 6T and new 8-speed. It has the same type of AWD lock feature and has way more standard feature content.
reply

If you really want the Jeep Grand Cherokee feel. just pick up a gently used Jeep Grand Cherokee. There are plenty of them out there.
