Subara's WRX successor takes on Mitsubishi's latest. For more Subaru news and reviews visit and for more Mitsubishi news and reviews visit Jared: do the physics, sti has a 2. 5L turbocharged engine and the evolution has a 2L with tad less hp and torque.
the wrx sti is 100kg less than the evolution
I like both cars but the evolution 9 is cooler than the 10,
sti is rwd drive based and evolution is front wheel drive based, both awd.
on redbook for australian cars the evolution is quoted at 5. 7, sti is at 5. 2 or 4. 8
407 nm torque/221kw the evolution is 217kw/366nm
the sti understeers a little bit more too. both are really fast fun cars

I just bought a Subaru STi hatchback and have had it for a week now. Test drove the Evo twice. Gotta disagree with you completely. The Evo is a MUCH more nimble car. It is insane how well it handles. Not saying the Subaru is bad, but the Evo is by far better at handling.
Subaru feels way faster off the line. It's not like I was timing myself in each car but it's the impression I got.
Evo is much easier to drive. The Subaru is just as good, but needs to be told what to do. If that makes sense.

I'll also add on more to my comment about the 2 cars; the evolution handles more like a hybrid rwd/awd which is awesome, the subaru handles like a regular awd so you get understeer a lot more so requires more attention you need to do a flick or hand brake turn where the evolution you can just power through and turn hard.
subaru is a more nimble car so it should be better in the smaller parts like twisty parts where evolution can do it better on long turns like a rwd. but both can do it all: )

The only reason EVO owners get so offended in comparison videos is because they dropped at least $5k more. Here a tip for buyers who have the money to afford to spend on a new evo but cant decide (try to follow) -- Buy a STI, upgrade the suspension, swar bars, downpipe, and intake, then get a pro tune. IMPORTANT! use the remaining $1k to take your closest EVO owners girlfriend out on the date of her dreams and then pop champagne all over her to celebrate having a better and more reliable car.

though you got to test drive it and push it? here its only a credit check and a casual drive. I did a rally driving course I actually got to push both, they were a lil bit off stock roll cage, anti skid plates, 15 inch tyres for off road. you then look at those tyres instead of the 18 inch wheels makes the brakes look huge!
but by nimble I mean the subaru is lighter and really good in the tight stuf kinda like a fwd is, in terms of handling on bends and stuff evolution is much easier

okay this is the truth between both cars stock (non bias)
the evolution has a more evasive awd system than the subaru, the evolution can oversteer and handle apex a lot more easier, the subi requires flicks, hand brake turns to prevent understeer
the subaru is 221kw/407nm torque and about 100kg lighter than the evolution, evolution has 217kw and 366nm torque also you can launch the subaru harder. though both cars are that close just buy the one you want there is no better car.

evolution is much easier to drive, it doesn't punish you, it puts out the fire. where the subaru is faster but it requires so much skill to push it there it handles like a fwd and evolution like a rwd.
where the subaru it punishes you well because you got it wrong, I also like the lower end grunt too from the subaru, though the evolution spins up pretty quickly. both are siick cars, but there isn't anything in the world that handles near the super yaw control of the evo: )

Set it in S-Sport mode, hold traction control button for 5 seconds, until the yellow warning screen comes on, pres on the brake and gas at the same time. wait a second until pressure builds up, and release the brake, this way my bone stock 2009 model EVO X MR does 5. 2 seconds 0-100 km/h.

Test drive here is much more than a casual drive. Salesmen want you to push the car to see what it can do. Stock brakes will never fit 15- wheels so you must have driven a very modified car. The subaru actually feels heavier to my only because the evo handles so damn well

Plus when you drive around cones, always use the manual mode, otherwise it will bog down when handbrake turns are applied, in second gear use the handbrake to initiate the turn, and immediately press the left paddle so it chenges back to first gear and slam on the gas.
