I'm about to buy either the E450 and 540i. So far I'm leaning towards the BMW. The Merc is stunning, but several things stand out for me. 1) HK sound system in BMW is better than the Burmester that comes with the premium package in the Merc. 2) iDrive is a lot more familiar and easier for me to use. I've had BMWs before, so that's probably why, but I am not a fan of the infotainment system in the Merc. However, the digital displays in the Merc are stunning. 3) Leather dashboard is a $1900 option in the BMW, but in the Merc, you have to get the $4900 designo leather package to get a leather dashboard. Plus, leather seats come standard in the BMW, they're a $1600 option in the Merc.
A lot of people will say BMW drives and performs better, and I suppose this could be true, but honestly, when I took them for a test drive, I really couldn't tell. This was probably because of the roads I was driving on. Finally, both dealers are willing to give me a nice discount off of MSRP, but BMW can do better simply because of all the loyalty discounts I'm eligible for. I'm basically getting more car for the money if I go with BMW.

I've owned the 3 litre A6, and E350, and driven plenty of 530s. and this is what I've learned. The 5 series might have the company car park panache but the interior is totally boring and in M sport has the most awful uncomfortable crashy ride imaginable. It really is that bad. The A6 with the mechanical Quattro has the best dynamics and road holding in the class. The E class is for wafting, and the interior is a work of art. So they all offer something different and depends what you want from a car.

as a 5 series owner i would go for the mercedes because of the interior but my car is so much better looking. my biggest problem with bmw is the reliability and the constant nagging of in 7 months i have to change this or visual check. is ridiculous. i dont thing i will ever buy bmw again and will avoid germans all together because they treat clients like parasites for maintenance. they make most of the money in maintenance and i want something made to last at that prices.

For whatever reason, divorced from logic, I just don't 'see' myself as a Benz driver, and so my last several choices have been a BMW 5. That said, I just picked up the current one from the garage with a whopping bill, and at least for the moment I'm giving serious thought to moving 'down' to something Japanese or my god, maybe even Korean next time. I've had German since I could afford them (Audis first) but I'm just fed up.

Bmw hands down, all those merc lovers, need to drive a beamer, have the f10 and drove an eclass and audi before i bought it, they both felt like tug boats compared to beamer, also the new beamer looks insanely nice, outside and stunning tech inside, get the tech pack and the key fob can drive it for you in and out of parking spaces/garages. seriously awesome car. -the ultimate driving machine- called that for a reason.

Driving BMW 5series is a Funtastic experience loaded with tech and luxury, though not impressed with the boot space which is too small for a car of this size, rear seating which has ample leg room but feels seated quite far from a car seat tad close to a bucket and suspension is too tight that you hear the screeching noise and mostly feel the bumps and little craters along the way. 4/5

BMW is just a way better drivers car. 85kg less weight, more power, more agility.
But the M sport makes it less comfortable with the large wheels. so VDC/adaptive suspension would be a better option for comfort.

No comparison with bmw5series. higher build quality. keenest handling more weightier steering giving you way more feel n control of road. sharper around bends and you enjoy driving round the bends.

The interior of the E-class is what we would called -outdated- in just a couple of years. while the clean, edgy and simplistic interior holds up till this day.

Mercs never win in these videos, yet they are more expensive as standard with extras even more money. and yet they still outsell all these rivals.
