New Volvo V60 review - premium Swedish estate is cool and different

It-s fair to say that Volvo can now officially be spoken about in the same breath as Audi, BMW and Mercedes. Led by its excellent SUV range and backed up by the S90 saloon and V90 estate, the Swedish brand now has the style and substance to go toe-to-toe with any of its premium rivals. And now it has a genuine compact executive contender in the V60 - albeit only in estate form for the time being; an S60 saloon will follow later in the year. Steve Fowler puts it through its paces

Problem with Volvo is, people still don't understand them. Volvo is one of the first actual premium makes. They are on top of the market since 1970's. Why?
Look at the relaiability. Look at the milage which most of Volvos archive. Look at the interior but not in new car. Get into 10 year old Volvo and compare it to 10 year old Audi or Bmw then. And it is not about beeing quick and it never was. Even with R models, they weren't to quick but they were safe and comfortable, well build and relaiable.
So Volvo is a deffinition of a premium make since 1970's. And that is a fact. If anyone argue with that, that means he doesn't understand what is the point of a car at all.

Drove it myself, didn't liked it because I get really sleepy / little seesick almost after more then an hour drive. Rearaxle is the main problem. My opinion is that it is not balanced evenly with the front. Front is more on the sporty side but the rear is way to comfy. Test it yourself drive over some 30 m/hr speedbumps and you will figure it out yourself.

Looks totally on par with the Germans. While MB has a great screen setup, the C-Class is a dog in size, especially rear seat room and Audi a drop better. This new platform and quality looks stellar with better rear seat room than the competitors. I would have really liked to have seen you sit in that back seat. How tall are you in inches, please?

Another great car from Volvo. Steve Fowler mentioned in this review that a new S60 is coming as well. I read that it will only be produced with petrol engines. Why is this Volvo? Your D4 E Drive diesel with the 8 speed auto is superb. Forget all this crap about diesels being the end of civilisation as we know it, and re-introduce it in the S60.

Typical British bias toward the German cars. I mean, it's not a bad review but the compliments to the Volvo seem left-handed. Sure, the BMWs drive sharper but overall, they're kind of dull in their design at least. German quality is overrated, British journalists. Especially Mercedes.

The problem is that volvo does not appear in Marvel and DC comics and that outcast the geeks in us lol. Regarding Mercedes quality, my friends so many scratchy ugly plastics around a C and E class that makes me think the Germans are mocking everyone lol. Cheers from Portugal!

volvo still thought of rear cargo space. with what looks like 50 degree rear window angle. or it must be some physics of the vision(photons? the more slanted the window the more light has to travel through particles which make things harder to see.

Did he really just say that it's not as well built as an Audi A4? Maybe I'm not up to date with this but an A4 is just a Jetta with an appearance package and everyone I know with a VW has some serious reliability issues no matter the model.

I-m looking in to change my W211 and was considering 2018 V60 or BMW 520d from 2017 onwards and i-m not sure what to choose but thinking about Chinese people are behind producing Volvo will go with Germans i think

Under $500 in parts (anti sway bar, bushings, lowering springs) transforms any car with the basic rigidity this has. If you want steering feel you're stuck with a Porsche or a Toyota 86. Shouldn't a car -expert- know this?
