From personal experience, I absolutely cannot stress enough HOW IMPORTANT that piece of cardboard is. You would think Oh it's glass, it'll be fine, the glowing hot metal shards will just bounce off it.
No. No they will not. They will adhere to the glass. They will etch the glass. They will discolor the glass. Permanently. You will not be able to clean it, scrape it, polish it, or remove it at all. Your window will be ruined.
USE. THE. CARDBOARD.

I used to do the same with a cut off while on arcade games with the active steering wheel assemblies. Aluminum cog pulley onto a steel motor shaft. After a few years of being in use, the cogs wear down, the belt slips. And you've got a better shot at meeting Moses in the supermarket then getting it to pull off the shaft.
One cut on the side-- It'll fall off in your hand.

Thanks for the tips. Today I had to track a broken fuel tank pressure sensor wire but thanks to you I immediately saw the loom damage and said that doesn't look right. I investigated and found not one, not two but three money shot wires. Fixed in 3o minutes and all is fine now. Thanks again Eric for all your videos. That teach us all everyday.

A friend of mine showed me a trick for this decsdes ago when removing the same thing off of his Chrysler minivan. We used a cold chisel on one side of the shaft and a hammer held to the other, creating a newtons cradle of sorts. We were hitting that wiper motor shsft HARD like this and we split that bushing and didn't break anything.

Aluminum is the correct pronunciation--that's why we spell it like we do. Sir Humphry Davy--who discovered it--at least wrote the first complete research paper about it--spelled it our way, from the potash alum he was working with. Dirty Brits plagiarized his work and gave it their spelling to make it sound more Latin.

I wish people would learn to gently escalate their aggressiveness when dealing with delicate parts. It is so much easier to start small and surgical before sending a 8lb sledge through the window. You can always lead up to full nuclear but once that button is pressed, there is no path of return.

Theres your problem lady. Dissimilar metals corroding and getting fused together. Eric can remove any of those rusted fused bolts, sleeves, nuts, wheel bearings, and the list goes on and on. Another great job, keep up the good honest work, you and Mrs. O are a great tag team together.

If you dont have a small grinder, a flat head and hammer around edges and pulling it should break it lose to, my friend has a dodge dart the coolant runs through plastic tubes yarg lol, why not make a piece extend a little into the main wiper shaft so it doesn't just break free.

My wife's equinox the back wiper had a tear in it. Went to O'REILLY'S and all the employees came out and the top guy says becarefull not to break the window. They said they couldn't do it. Got home and I got a small blade screwdriver and popped it off, no big deal.

I must be part genius. I did what the genius did before I watched this. Only me didn't use cardboard. That's why PART genius. I do get a bonus point for completely draining the water from me pressure washer before tossing it in the shed pile o stuff.

Look at you, Mr. Fancy shop. Free tip and you use cardboard What do you think I'm made out of Solid Gold That's gonna cost me an arm and a leg! Jeez.
Thanks for always entertaining us and showing us how it's done. Have a great day, Mr. O!

Took the plastic on off my 08 Ford Edge and put 1 from a 08-10ish Explorer. Looks better and can use a plane jane wiper blade and i did not have to use a different length blade. Cost for the arm $5 and $5 for the wiper
reply

Aww man I was expecting some totally weird trick and it's just how I remove them already. Not really sure how you'd cut one of with anything but a dremel wheel tho and the cardboard is def safer than the towel I use

Looks like what they used to cut my cast off. I had THREE as a kid. I asked the Doc how do you know how DEEP to cut He just smiled! THEN he said if it didn't heal right, I'll just re-fracture it ! OUCH!

I did this repair on my 2000 Yaris, many years ago when I was about 19. I only had a junior hacksaw so it took a while. I made sure to slather the new one with antiseize. None for you Not even fluid film

Note on the glass if you look will see Castle type shapes or squiggly lines. This will tell you where the wiper rests. Also with the wiper arm off turn on the rear wiper note which way the motor turns
reply

Worst thing to do it pry on the window even using a long board your bound to shatter the glass.
Takes very little force to bust one.
But you can go wacky on it and the dam thing don't break.

Great tip! I have used. this method when I can't get rusted nuts off of my suspension on my Porsche 911sc project. sometimes splitting the nut is the only way to get what's left of a nut off!

My wife has a 2016 Escape, and I only found one national parts store the carried the rear wiper blade. They can sell 12, and 13 wiper blade, but they won't sell 11 wiper blades in our area.
