Chevy Impala: Battery Light On, No Power Steering, Over heating

I look at a Chevy Impala that was towed in with a customer complaint of no power steering, over heating and the battery light came on. These are all common symptoms usually related to the belt falling off the engine. However belts usually do not just fall off. Let's see what really happened

So i had to go to store close by, battery light came on. only issue. Figured id need to get a new battery soon and still went for cruise. everything fine. on close way to back home the car seemed to have lost power and power steering went out, but could still give it some gas. was able to park the car at home. I did notice some corrosion build up on battery so cleaned it. I think i am due for a new battery anyway so will get that first. Could this possibly just a be just a problem with the battery? My car seemed to feel a little hot when i opened the hood, but temp guage didnt look like it went up much. The belt feels fine and no signs of heavy wear to it but Im not an expert on belts. Never had issues with them. What you think? Any input is really apreciated. Id hate to have to tow this to the shop if its the belt.

Well Eric! I write again! Last time I wrote in was to inform you and give you kudos for giving me the confidence to change the A/C compressor pump and refill it on my mom's 1998 Corolla. Now she's been having problems with other 'belt' components, so again, thanks to your videos and your 'you can do it too' attitude, I've been able to change her tensioner pulley, alternator, water pump, serpentine belt and coolant change! All in the comfort of my warmed up, London, Ontario garage! Once again you saved our bacon, including some serious coinage! My mom is ever so grateful to me and to you! So thanks again, we make great partners lol! (I may stop in in May on our camping trip to Letchworth and actually have the guts to say hi unlike last year's trip. lol)

I have a Milwaukee 3/8 inch li-ion ratchet. But I still find myself doing shit by hand. Maybe thats because I wrench for fun not for a living. Lol. On my personal car I would have changed the entire tensioner and idler pulleys and belt for future reliability. But I understand you have customers on a budget.

Coincidence that, just the other day, I decided to put a new belt on my Jeep. While I had the belt off I gave the tensioner and the idler a spin to check the bearings and they were both rough. So the Jeep has a new belt, tensioner, and idler at 108k. If you can do it, then I can do it. Thanks.

I had the Idle pulley and tensioner pulley seize simultaneously on my eldorado. It was a glorious day. Happened during one of Florida's winter snaps. So, the high was like 37F. I started early one morning as not work on it in the evening when it was in the 20's. Got it done by lunch time.

You're lucky your hands and fingers still operate as intended, I would have dropped the tensioner at least twice. Got to love engineers! By the way, I liked your scan tool video, don't let the snap-on haters curb your thoughts on making videos. They are always on my list to watch.

Dunno what people are whining about, not liking the scan tool review video - I really enjoyed it and think it's excellent seeing you use and review scan tools - literally no-one whose opinion on scan tools, carries more credibility imo!
Real shame if you don't do any more

Some people, I tell ya. Not happy unless complaining. I for one enjoyed the video, and thought you did a great job. Pay no attention to those folks, and continue to do you. If you want to do another tool review you do it brother.
reply

It's a shame people don't know how to not watch a video about a tool they don't want to know more about. Although maybe I am wrong and we are all entitled to be entertained exactly the way we want 100% of the time.

What's wrong with opinions? People listen to it every time you view commercials. Every time I buy expensive products I always seek reviews before purchasing. What's with people? Please don't listen them.
