At 14: 00 Eric O starts talking about the customer saving money by not mentioning things that are not working. It is a sad commentary on the incompetence of those customers, that they can NOT quickly tell that Eric O is an honest man. I know this failure is widespread, because scammers make a living. I must have a natural talent at judging this, because at 74, I cannot remember ever being wrong. I always tried to list everything when I went to the shop. I assumed that I would get a itemized quote sorted by the mechanic's judgement of most-critical to only-cosmetic. Then I would OK down to my budget limit, subject to finding issues needing immediate work while doing the approved work. In 56 years of paying for car repair, the repairs always worked, and I have never felt the least cheated. It is just my good judgement in correctly assessing the Eric O's of the world.

Love those air impacts! That Arm Pull Down Tool is so Great! A real life saver when removing/installing those arms. Thank you for the video, on to part 2.
I remember doing those Ford ABS Modules/HCU on the 2002-2004 F250-F350 trucks. Ford mounted the module on the bottom of the HCU. Even in a non rust belt like L. A. California, they were corroded when removing the module. And since it was on the bottom, sometimes it came off with a large quantity of brake fluid in its electrical parts. Ford mounted the assembly at the corner of the radiator core support bracket and the left front fender. Reinstalling the hydraulic lines could be a nightmare, so I learned to partially install the lines to the HCU but wait till the unit was installed in it's mounting area, THEN tighten them to proper torque specs.

My ABS system hammered really hard one morning when I tried to stop on a slippery road. After that happened the pedal would go down a long ways before it would bring me to a stop. I took it to my local Ford dealer and they said the back calipers were bad! They replaced them and it seemed to help. Three weeks later when I was coming up to a stop sign and the road was snow covered the ABS hammered really hard again. Right after that I noticed to brakes go down a long ways before they bring me to a stop. I have a feeling the Ford mechanics were smoking something after watching your video! Need less to say it has to go back in so I’m going to bring this up to them Thanks Eric

I rented a car (don't think it was a Ford) & the brakes had been alright when I drove it around the block but noticed the brake pedal starting to feel like it was touching the floor after 40 miles and I almost rear-ended another car when exiting an expressway, but stopped it with the emergency brake. I checked the floor mat in case it was interfering with the pedal but it wasn't the problem. I was able to drive the car back to the rental agency, downshifting for slowing & using emergency brake for stopping. The agency didn't say why it happened, just saying I shouldn't have taken it when I noticed poor braking. It didn't happen with other cars I rented from them.

Hey Eric. You do great work, and you are really conscientious. Love watching your videos. I have learned a lot, and can now do more things on my own vehicle. HERE IS SOME ADVICE FROM SOMEONE WHO WAS IN THE MILITARY AND HAS SIGNIFICANT HEARING LOSS. Right now, you may not notice the loss, but down the road you will notice it's sneaking up on you. For your own good, START WEARING HEARING PROTECTION. Yes, it's a pain, but it will save the hearing you have left! Mrs. O will get very tired of repeating things! Thanks for the great videos!

Eric my man, we don't care if you have to put that camera back on the tripod and observe from a distance. We like hanging out in the shop with you while you're working. You don't need to worry so much about getting us up in there for the money shot. I'm loving this content with the vehicles coming in with a list of problems here lately. It's neat Just hanging out with you turning wrenches. I know it's probably boring because you can't have the music going, but we love your commentary and your chit chat with us.

Many moons ago a young fella at a garage where i worked managed to not put the bottom swivel bolt in properly, 15 mins after customer picked up their car they called up to say the front wheel had folded up into the wing and caused a fair amount of damage! He hadn't seated that swivel correctly and locking bolt went over the top of it not through the notched part.
Obviously the repair was dealt with and customer fully refunded, but the only people that dont F up are those that dont do anything.

I know that it's much harder to diag and repair customers cars when you don't get the correct story.
Perhaps shops should charge a BS! t tax on the total price, so that they know they cannot BS you in how it got to be that way in the first place,
If you didn't finish of that shave and a haircut tune on your air tool, I was expecting Roger Rabbit to jump out to finish it off.
Years later Eric O goes to Wilburt's to get a lower control arm and thanks himself for fluid filming those bots.

A little preplanning and proper placement of brake lines/capping off can save a whole lot of frustration when bleeding. I wish techs would remember this. I'm the guy that cleans my tools while the system gravity bleeds and makes a couple of ABS activated stops out back on the dirt and ship it while other guys spend an hour of their time and someone else's time trying to bleed brakes. Just replaced a ABS actuator on an Elantra with NO bleeding.

Eric how ever you able to determine it was the ABS module responsible for the pedal dropping to the floor I had a similar issue with a car once. The pedal was going to the floor and the customer was insist ant that I replace the master cylinder so I go ahead and do that and the pedal still fell to the floor when pressed. So how do you determine its a master cylinder vs an ABS module Wish you would have filmed that.

I had a 2010 Edge that whistled every time I touched the brake. Bought a vacuum booster. I pulled the driver seat first to get under the dash. Under the hood, I did everything possible to avoid disconnecting any brake lines. The master cylinder was tied out of the way upside down until I could arm wrestle the booster out. The job took an entire day, but I didn't need to bleed the brakes.

Eric, I had a 2010 that did this. Fixed it by replacing the fluid and activating ABS. Drove to a dirt road, activated ABS, returned home, purged the fluid, repeat 3x times. Never had it go to the floor again. The Ford tech actually recommended this because, essentially, the fluid has to be extremely clean for the ABS to work right. Since then, I purged the fluid with each oil change.

loaned my daughters boyfriend my 2010 hhr for a couple of weeks while his was getting his worked on. I got it back three days ago and the brake pedal felt a little soft. then today I watched this video about the abs valve stuck and I'm think could that be why the pedal felt soft. So I tapped on the abs module this morning and the pedal went right back to firm. So thanks for video!

Eric, something I've found that works really well when you are screwing in threaded lines like that is to take some di-electric grease and put a tiny amount on the threads of the nut on the pipe. Be sure not to get any on the end of course, but it works so well for making them glide in a lot better. I've tried the brake fluid on the threads but it doesn't work as well.

My wife ended up in the middle of an intersection because of the ABS HCU malfunctioning but somehow her 2010 Fusion Sport didn't fall into the series of cars covered by the recall, so we had to eat the cost of replacement. I think Ford knows there was an issue with their ABS systems in more than just the recalled vehicles and is just letting grass grow over it.

Eric O thank you so much for all of the videos you post. They are very informative, I love the format and the atmosphere of your small town family business. I know you don't want to be bothered but it would be great to meet you and shake your hand if ever I find myself in the great state of New York. Take care and keep up the honesty and hard work.

With the area you work in I can understand there being some off camera language, I had a front rotor on my 06 Corolla (recent purchase ) that required the language, air hammer & a gas torch to get it off & I do not live in a rust belt just near the ocean( I now know why the previous owner did a pad slap)So I am with you Mr. O. Cheers.

I wish I'd seen this before I did my 09's control arms! Aligning that one bolt was a pain, but I'll remember your trick in case there is a next time! Otherwise a pretty easy job. I used anti seize on everything, even though I know I'll never have to do it again. Because I know if I hadn't, inevitably I'd end up needing to do it again.

We as the watching mechanics know how the public treats us with hardly any idea of what is wrong but expect it repaired before they leave your business. It is sometimes good for some of the public to hear all the problems that can occur and maybe they will start telling us more of what is wrong with their vehicles.
