To explain that VW aftermarket radio issue. There was a common mistake made when wiring an aftermarket radio on pre-CANBUS VWs. For some reason the adapter harnesses (which is just a standard Euro ISO connector that is also used with other brands) came with a power antenna wire on the pin that is supposed to be the K line, used for serial communication with the stock radio. The scan tool would momentarily ground that K line to initialize communication with the PCM. If that wire was incorrectly connected to an aftermarket harness, it burns up the scan tool since its trying to ground a wire that has 12v on it. As far as I know, it is no longer an issue with MY2002 and up vehicles.

My jetta has code 2431. This error only causes the CEL to light up after two cold engine starts. the first one detects the fault and if in the second match the fault persists, the CEL lights up. Is there any way to reset the ECU so that I can validate the result after sensor replacement? Because I have to wait for the engine to cool before I can start it again.

Same motor I have, see not so hard! Your a brilliant technician! With great diagnostic abilities. VW are nice, just like all manufactures have there good and bad. Newer car are getting cheaper and it shows in how much plastic are in them! I do like German car for there ride. But they are money pits.

The vw scanners like Ross tech and obdeleven are like using forscan. You just have to learn the language. What I dont like about vw is that there is a whole nother set of tools you need like triple squares and a really good set of hardened impact type hex, and internal/external torx bits, etc.

It is frustrating to see how dealer repair manuals seem to be getting harder to find info. When they describe the first step of plugging in an OEM scanner, they lose most of us, and even simple functional descriptions are often incomplete.

Won't mess with scan tool as long as you install the radio without connecting to steering wheel controls and using an alternate remote turn on line from the factory one. Hope this helps anyone testing or owning one of these cars

I bought an Audi to fix up, I also bought the VCDS program from Ross Tech, best 99 I ever spent and made diagnosing these German cars VERY easy, once you learn the measuring blocks for each category it is a snap.

VW's are notorious for secondary air injection problems. I had a few of them with that issue and it was always an expensive fix, so I just found a good mechanic who could get me past emissions lol

Also, If you warranty that pump out and the old still worked, makes a one hell of a boat raft inflater. nice vids btws, hope your use my electrical tape socket pointer one day.
