Just finished the same job on my wifes 07 Kia Sportage front bearings. Speaking of no stink in the pink, my lube of choice on my HF bearing press kit, particularly when thinking of friction on a long hard forcing screw shaft and rubbing ball bearings was CV axle grease! Worked like a dream although messy!
Ive seen Eric Os video on doing a rear bearing on a Sportage (awesome video which gave me a confidence boost by the way, thanks Eric) but the front bearings & knuckles on this Sportage were weird - the snap ring was on the back side toward the inside of the car rather than facing outward like all other knuckles and bearings Ive seen on video so far. crushed my first thrust bearing learning this the hard way! Had to press the old bearing out backwards from what was depicted in this video, thus everything on the knuckle got disconnected except the tie rod so I could access the snap ring and properly set up my tool!
Good thing I ordered two sets of thrust bearings (awesome idea Eric) But I had a hard time finding a full size thrust bearing in time so I ended up using thrust needle bearings and washers with the HF bearing press set to get my bearings done. I just went to a local industrial shop to get the bearings or I found some on McMaster Carr that should work too! At least for the HF tool the thrust bearings needed to be 0. 75 inside diameter. The HF tool and bearings held up surprisingly well especially when lubed! Thanks again Eric O and all those who have read this far!

So, I'm getting ready to do front bearings & front brake pads on my delivery van, similar to the repair done here. It's a 2014 Chevy Express 1500. It has the speed sensor problem where my brakes disengage when coming to a stop. I am completely new at doing my own repairs, everything takes me 5x too long to do. I'm at a point where I have a decent set of tools, but I am struggling with the knowledge & how to aspect. Am I correct that, this vehicle required bearings that do not come as a complete assembly, which requires all of those different pressing tools to remove and install the bearings? Since my parts came as a complete hub bearing assembly. Do I need any of those specialized puller kits? I assumed it is a straight forward unbolt, pry apart, and re-install type of repair? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hey Eric! I bought the Harbor Freight apparatus and the first one I went through, the screw basically disintegrated on me because I used the impact gun. I smeared plenty of lube on it before using it, but, still smoothed that screw out. I went back for a different screw and they gave me another no problem. I finished the other side by just reefing on it with my breaker bar and my handy dandy extension pipe. That did the trick with the cheap Harbor Freight apparatus. I'm assuming the kit you have is far better quality and takes the impact just fine. Just wanted to give you all that feedback! Keep up the great work man!

Hi Eric, when you are using the lubricant on the caliper pins and slides during a break job, is it the Permatex 80078 that I see posted in your Amazon store? I have a caliper that seems to be hanging up on the front of my van, I just replaced it and it seems to be still gripping on the disk. I did no cleanup or lube of the pads or the rail that the caliper slides against.

Not criticizing but I'm curious. Why dont you use a chisel and open up the ears on the knuckle where the ball joint bolt goes being that it's a pinch style? I know being in ohio a lot of our stuff gets stuck too and more often than not we tend to resort to that and watch the ball joint fall out.

I know you're from NY when you say give her a little spritz. Also know you're in NY dealing with parts welded by rust. A lot of vids on YouTube show parts nearly coming off by themselves, not in NY. Nice work!

The best part of watching your videos are that you start from beginning to show follow up confirmed fixes. Btw what's that tool you always use to assist in disconnecting the lower control arm from knuckle.

The Escape is the same as my problematic Mazda Tribute. Now I know what to do when it's time to change wheel bearings, which I will surely have to do at an inopportune time.
