Just want to put in my 2c. I used to have a radiator business and you are wrong about aftermarket radiators, by far not all of them are junk. I have opened thousands of boxes with radiators in to check that they not damaged before delivering them and found that many of them had the 100% same markings and inspections as OEM. It turns out that there are not that many factories that make radiators so they put the OEM ones in fancy printed OEM boxes and the rest Aftermarket in plain boxes. And guess what. Napa doesn't have a radiator manufacturing plant. they get it from the same place but just have them put it in boxes with NAPA printed on it.

Its really nice to show people how a man and wife are supposed to go. Its cery clear that you both love eachother and that is so very nice to see. I love my wife very much also. We have been together coming up on 12 years now and I love her just as much now no I dont I love her much more now than I ever have. I think you and Mrs. O do also. Its just a really positive role model for folks to see in the age where people seem to only care about themselves. I think we need to get back to family values like this country once had. It makes for a much more fullfilling life and a more kind society. Thank you for the fine example sir.

Sure is sad to know that an OEM part has to be three to five times the cost of aftermarket. Especially with a radiator, same amount of plastic, same amount of aluminum, same design/tanks/mounts etc. yet, the price is 500 vs. 150 for example. I reckon we must all contribute to the insane amount of TV ads they publish thinking they are bringing in buyers from other brands. Not likely.
Another no collateral damage repair job from SMA. You have to wonder why some of the area shops refer their customers to SMA now and then vs. up their game.

I don't know about there, but i know around here there are more GM vehicles on the road than Ford or Chrysler, so it makes sense that there would also be more getting worked on. That being said I do see a lot of Trailblazers/Envoys and FWD based GM SUVs and crossovers for sale with transmission issues to the point that I wouldn't buy one unless the trans and been replaced recently and then i would be vigilant on changing the fluid and filter ever 25K-ish miles.

Had to do this on my 2006 a few months ago when the plastic reservoir started leaking. Went through 3 radiators before I got one home that wasn't broken (mounting tabs, feet, cracked plastic reservoir. Pretty frustrating when the install is so quick. I did go ahead and replace all the trans cooler lines, trans filter, and fluid while I was in there. Looks like they haven't changed the design much since the LS style engine was introduced in the GM pickups.

I had an aunt in Alabama that worked in a radiator shop that built them to order. Living in NC I could call her and tell her what i needed a radiator for they built it and shipped to me cheaper than I could get a used one. Never had any trouble with fit. And i never waited more than 3 days to have it in hand. That was a long time ago don't even know if the place still exist.

16: 11 Isn't it amazing how subtle differences in seemingly unimportant parts can make all the difference in a job from hackery to professional?
I used to come across that issue all the time back when I had my RV and mobile home repair business. A lot of times, just like Eric, I'd use the old fasteners or hardware because it fit better!

morning Eric. Had a 95 Buick Riveria once. Had to change both the radiator and water pump. had a friend help me do this. When done as I was topping off the radiator and letting the car warm he open a petcock by the thermostatt. This was to let air bleed from system. I didn't know Buick had done this. Made it easy to bleed out.

i found on those jiffytight fittings they cay can be a different depth and can cause problems for you. So if you run into that problem you may need to use the old ones. Be sure to keep the new ones because you may need them when you do need to change the lines out for the cooler lines. just fyi. have a great one. tech tip thursday

Everytime i m working on cooling system i'm asking myself why not all the car companies are making a special drain for the coolant? it would be much more easier to work and safer for environement. I have an old 2003 VW and it does have this option. but elsewere i don't see that often.

I love Chevy trucks! My 99 Silverado 2500 has only needed one radiator in 315k miles and I used aftermarket too. Still going strong. Just bought a 23 Silverado 2500 Duramax. When it needs a radiator I ll probably need help. It s as big as Staten Island.

Someone needs to make a drain pan for cooling system work that's about 4 or 5 feet square, so you can actually catch the coolant when it comes pouring out everywhere.
Great video as always Eric, especially when Mrs. O makes a cameo appearance.

I have noticed these car makers try and cover everything up to make a easy repair look more intimidating, people are scared of the unknown, there are no other reasons for car engine covers, why hold the heat in the engine compartment.

Just a DIY guy and I was removing a radiator clamp with a flat pliers and it came loose and flicked my thumb nail and did that ever smart, about like hitting it with a hammer which I have done plenty of times. Retired carpenter
