My camaro broke a wire to the ign switch not worth 60 for a new one plus getting new resistor keys cut. Is you want to save it just put a switch and a resistor in somewhere.
Better security than the gm system ever was.

Excellent video! I had to do the exact same procedure in my 96 Impala SS. One day after work the Impala wouldn't crank. I went back in the shop and fabricated a resistor combo that closely matched my ignition key. Spliced the resistors in where the connector is under the steering column and BINGO! I did that maybe 10 years ago and the Impala still starts without any issues.

Good vid.
I have done the same myself=I also have installed a new lock cyl, with proper VATS key, under the floor mat to save the customer of the steering column labor.
The only problem is if the column is started with a screwdriver, who is to fault? Not GM, could be the Tech, unless the info is in writing?

has anyone bypassed on a 1994 cadillac seville sls? mr. o made the corvette look easy
but the caddy is different. the orange wire with the 2 whit wires go into a junction box that is shared by other connections. looks like i would have to cut on the key side and install the resisters that way. comments are needed please!

granted it wasn't a great security system but. better then nothing, so after you bypassed it, what did you install in it's place? did you put an aftermarket alarm or something in? dunno if a totally unprotected vehicle is good, alarms are pretty cheep these days

I found the plug. The 2 white wires were not in insulation & the other end is white & purple. I unplugged it & car wouldn't start. Plugged back end it starts. The problem I have is the key only works on one side. Have u heard these colors b4?

Great video I got an Oldsmobile w same issue fixing it tomorrow Thanks for the refresher course I couldnt remember if it mattered which way the resistor went I guess not Thanks

Makes no sense to me that gm did these chip keys and the ignition version vats from the 90 to 00's at the same time. Like pick one system or the other!

If I had that chime sound like that,
I would of disconnect the chime wire near the ignition cause that's how I find the chime wires in some vehicles.
