Hey how's it going?
Had a question about this engine. I'm working on an 05 Liberty 3. 7 2WD for my friends mom. I was told it needed head gaskets, when I looked into it, #2 piston got into it with the valves, needless to say that engine was toast. I picked up a long block from a local yard but it was from an 03. Didn't know that the crank and cam timing rings were different. had to go back to the yard and get the right ones, installed then and got everything back together but it still wont run. Compression on 1, 3, 5 was 120 and 2, 4, 6 was 90. Also the #1 coil isn't firing. All six are new, but I swapped it anyway with #3 and still no spark. Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance.

I just want to give you a big thank you for this video. My daily liberty suddenly lost power miss firing, of course when the misses is driving it to get the kid. Checked th rockers found the exhaust spring loose, broke valve at the keepers. During the rebuilding my mechanic called, got a liberty rough idle backfiring cylinder six down. Owner just wants to walk away. Sweet a parts jeep real cheep. It is now my daily runner. Number six rocker laying against the intake valve, broke out the screw driver runs like new. Replaced lifters now she just a screamer. Down side is it is only two wheel drive and Michigan winters I might have a problem. Again thank you and keep videos coming.

Interesting approach to the mechanical issue. It would be very sad if the car dealer decides to leave the lifters alone. It's quite likely they will not pump up to spec again and dopy out of their place. The sensor not being correct would also be a bad thing to leave alone since both of these issues will return but not until someone ends up purchasing it. With hope, Eric will simply let the sales guy know that the lifts and sensor could fail next time the engine is started or not for a few miles later but likely not long enough to pass the liability off to the next owner. Car looks really clean and in shape enough to warrant giving it the proper repairs.

I have 2005 jeep liberty v6, engine was stop running when driving road, we check it the engine code was, p0300 miss fire and p2311 ignition coil D. i change the spark plugs and coil after the car is start but make in knocking sound and shacking, we take out the valve cover it was problem was engine rocker lifter was off the inside engine so we replaced after we start the engine runs very smooth we solved problems.

Many of the vehicles you work on have the low tire pressure light illuminated on. Do you air up the tires before you give it back to the owner or do you advise them to air up the tires and not to ignore this warning light? Most owners are ignorant of the tire damage being done and if the tires flex too much the tire will blowout. Do you advise them?

Yeah, u r bad ass. Great video. I had two Chrysler's. 06&08 Hemi's, never kept them long enough for them to need a doctor. Won't be buying another. I have a dear friend that has a 08, she babies it, leaves it on carport with a car cover. Drives it 3/4 times a month. I have been struggling to tell her that she is mothering a mongoloid.

Do you think 2 oil changes at 100miles with 1/2quart of diesel in the crank case would cut that slime since it isn't quite turned to sludge yet or would the diesel harm the bearings, cams and crank journals? Add a few Italian tune ups in there for the carbon potentially on the exhaust valves. I bet it was grandma driven!

Thanks for posting this! Exact same thing happened to the 3. 7 Jeep Liberty that I went down to help wrench on today. Luckily I watched your video this morning before heading out and only spent 10 min screwing around before just pulling the valve cover and a rocker arm fell out on to the ground.

I owned an 04 that did the same thing. Overhauled the entire top end. New everything including lifters, valves, guides, everything and it lasted 2 months and did it again. Never did figure out why, traded it in. I assumed it was an internal engine oil passage slugging problem.

This is why you get regular oil changes and change the oil filter. You run that oil too long and it turns to sludge and carbon. So much blow-by in modern engines means you can't skip those oil changes.
