I just ran across this video and had a flash back to my very own 2007 Chevy Colorado XTREME (crew cab approx. 76, 000 miles. It's been a good truck, nary a problem with it until.
a couple of years ago I pulled into a gas station to fuel up. Finished my transaction, hopped in to start it and I got nothing. No Start, No Crank. Which is a really weird feeling. Had it towed to the local Chevy dealer and it turned out to be the anti theft black box. My own truck of 10 years didn't recognize me and refused to start! When I described the symptoms to the service manager she knew exactly what it was. Wait, what? Did my decade timer just run out? They put a new black box in it and I was on my way. I don't remember seeing that pad lock light on the dash. Guess the box just died.

South Main Auto,
Just did the same thing on a 04 Colorado with one of my high school auto students. Crank but no start. Determined it was the key sensor after incorrect voltage values during key on and cranking. We had to go through the pass code key relearn twice, working with high school students. After that it finally worked! You should have seen the smile on the student's face after all the work and reaching success. Thanks for the video. We use your stuff on a regular basis to begin our diagnosis strategies.

I have a 2005 Colorado with no BCM buss line. I have PCM, ABS, IPC and radio. MIL comes on. Code u1064 in PCM. Code U1000 in other modules. Also, no other lights on dash and no running lights. Door locks work. But, power windows and windshield wipers do not work. Diagram shows all busses going through BCM. Checked fuses out front. All getting power with key on like normal. Seems like BCM inop. Shows power and ground to PCM. Any other thoughts on testing?

Hey I just did this same repair on a 09 Colorado and no steer lock block or spring was in my housing either to lock the wheel when the key is removed, is this normal, and is there any way the little spring and block could be in the column as to lock the wheel in a bind while driving, I wish I had looked under there with a mirror but the old housing doesn't show any signs of wear where a lock block would've been riding there

Followed your steps and my switch replacement was easy. But it still didn't fix my problem. What ever is wrong with mine has something to do with the gear selected light on the dash (PRND123) That yellow light will not come on, so I'm thinking the ECM Thinks the truck is in D or R and it want crank. How do I address this problem?

7: 13 that is the dumbest bolt ever. I used a chisel and hammer to loosen it (tapping it counter clockwise) after I took all the other junk off and then tapped on a socket like you did to unscrew it because none of my vise grips would fit it. Then I replaced it with a normal bolt.

You are funny! Thanks for this. Our 2004 has the same problem. Purchased a new battery and starter and still would not crank! So, when we take it in, we'll see if this is the issue. Ho hum! LOL! Thanks for the post!
