I have a 2010 Dodge Journey RT with a battery drain issue. It doesn't have a power lift gate so I can't blame that module. The car has some weird issues like power door locks locking and unlocking, hazard lights flashing, radio shutting off and the hvac not blowing cold air. All of these symptoms happen randomly and not all at the same time. The only solution I came up with is plugging in a 2 amp battery tender into power accessory socket, no more dead battery. Not ideal and I'm now waiting for the bloody thing to go up in smoke. Lol

I think your Used Car Guy is taking advantage of you, based on the comment UCG never approves a repair. It could be understood UCG maybe taking you away from paying customers. Perhaps you should review your history with UCG, and based on the approval percentage continue or just say no thank you. UCG could be your parasitic draw (if you get my meaning, draining your time and income potential. Eric, you're doing excellent work, and you make me chuckle. Thank you and put the hat back on, you're out of uniform.

Good diagnosis as to what was the draw and causing the battery to die.
The sad and bad part is the used car guy choose not to fix the initial problem instead just pull the fuse.
Now being used cars these days fetch high price I wondered if they tell the potential buyer the issue.
But again Mr. Eric O good video on how to properly to diagnosing another vehicle problem issue. The public can use more mechanics like you.

Chased an overnight dead battery issue on a Volvo Excavator, couple guys were saying it was this and that, the other guy installed a main switch, after testing it out all I found was a loose (arcing) connection on the starter! Tightened it up and no more dead battery! So many people said that couldnt be it, but if there is arcing you are using power, but they still argued the fact!

I'm going to be honest. If it's like this every time you work on an auction car, maybe it's time to start turning down those jobs. Used car sellers who are that unscrupulous, will eventually stop being that way, if shops stop enabling the behavior. If they can't get it looked at in the first place, they'll give up and move on to something easier, or go broke.

Eric, we need a discussion video of what brands/models are reliable and/or good to work on. And what brands/models should be avoided at all costs, unless we want to live in a state of perpetual frustration.
Caveat, yadda yadda yadda. ANY brand/model can turn out to be a fine gem or ANY brand/model can turn out to be a shiny turd.

As you were going through the modules, and mentioned rear wiper, and the cycling it made me think the wiper shaft was sticking, trying to park.
I guess lift gate malfunction was a similar thing, sees door as not closed. And trying to finish the process. the tipm needs closure before it can sleep.
That iced tea aint too bad!

Can somebody please explain why some modules in a modern car have to stay on for minutes after the key is removed?
I can understand some modules need to be on all the time ie car alarm, the keyless entry/Radio key system - surely everything else could be switched off within seconds of the key being removed / Engine Off?

For me the journey to the diagnosis is in most cases the bigger learning part of the video than the repair. Taking things apart & putting them back together I can do, diagnosing the root cause AND identifying the actual faulty component is the true art. Thank you for taking me & all your viewers along for the ride Eric!
