Our merch store is now LIVE: It’s time for an off-road head-to-head with two incredible Toyotas! We’ve got our hands on the Arctic Trucks Toyota Hilux AT37, and it’s going up against a super rare, one-of-one Hilux It’s the Top Gear Polar Special Hilux - the same one that the original Top Gear team drove to the North Pole! The two are going head-to-head over a series of challenges on an off-road course to see which of the two is the best off-road! But how will they compare Let’s take a closer look at the stats. The AT37 is based on the current-generation Hilux, so it comes with a 2. 8-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that produces 204hp and 500Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 6-speed auto, and it weighs 2, 200kg. It comes with several modifications, including 37 all-terrain tyres, upgraded front & rear differentials, as well as an adjustable performance suspension system. All in, the car and the upgrades cost 78, 000. Then we come to the Top Gear special edition Hilux. It’s based on the 2006 generation and is powered by a 3-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that produces 171hp and 360Nm. It has 4WD, ultra-low gearing, and 38 snow tyres. It also comes with pneumatic locking differentials and a couple of additional unique mods! The question is, will the newer Hilux propel itself to victory Or could the older Hilux snatch the win You’ll have to stick with Mat, Sam & Colin to find out! Two decades ago I would never have entertained the idea of owning a Japanese vehicle, however having gone to a friend’s rescue l ended up driving her Lexus, some few weeks later she decided she needed to sell the car and offered it to me for ridiculous money, the long and short of this story is l still own that vehicle after almost decade of driving, lve owned the best and driven even better but my love affair with my Lexi can’t be broken, obviously she is basically a Toyota under the bonnet, nearly 150, 000 miles, engine as dry as a nut no oil leaks, still driving on the timing chain fitted to the motor around 04 l kid you not, if l need a little extra power she delivers in an amazing time and is a joy to drive, my 2005 Lexus SC300 is without doubt the best car l have ever owned and l appreciate the Toyota designed drive train every day!

I love the fact Toyota still use the Invincible model tag and that Arctic Trucks do occasionally let the Top Gear Hilux out to play.
I imagine someone had a heart attack when the essentially priceless piece of TV heritage almost slid into the bank at 13: 01.
And for a 20 year old truck built specially for snow rather than mud, the TG Hilux does damn well for itself. Still remember watching that special and the volcano trip and being mind blown. Still easily a Top 3 special of either TG or GT.

I boycott toyota because what thay did to worlds storage system. Worlds s order to manufacturing to hand is s. Getting parts is hard and takes too long because nothing is in storage only when y order one they make one, but that takes forever. when parts should be available yesterday.

Having owned a 2018 and 2024 hilux, i can say the 2024 was a pile of rubbish in comparison.
120k in the 2018 and all that failed was the fuel cap actuator.
The 2024 was never out the garage with dpf and ad blue issues.
Now have a 2024 dmax that's been brilliant touch wood.

I didn’t hear you mention the Invincible badge on the new Hilux is a nod to the red Hilux, that Top Gear tried to destroy numerous times. If I recall the invincible package started appearing on the Hilux after it came down with the toppled building on Top Gear

14: 16 I can imagine how James May in his head must have done his iconic 'CLLLLARRRKKSSSSOONNN' while writing that. Funny it's stayed in the console for so many years. Kudos to the team who managed the car for so many years!

I'm curious how the Hilux (global) would compare to the Tacoma (U. S. Why Toyota thinks they need two different trucks is beyond me. But the Taco we get here ranks below the Ranger and Colorado. (not by a lot, though.

i think a yall need to race backwards up the last hill since both trucks made it up with little effort. also dont forgot the truck was not just the artic truck but it also drove up a active valcano.

I’m from Poland, I’m petrol head. I’ve emigrated from Poland to Uk in 2006 and I’ve learned my English watching Top Gear on Dave with subtitles, absolutely loved it.

This fella looks like John Constantine, if Constantine decuded to give up dealing with occult stuff and traded magic for engeneering.
And I am all for that!

Toyota's 2. 8 Turbo Diesel engine is such a sleeper. I've seen tuned ones with stock internals push 230 hp and 600 something nm.
These things boogey!

All your videos are great, especially with Sam and Yanni but this was even next level fun and funny. Smiling!
Yanni, Sam and Colin would be great!

If they brought this to America and called it the Toyota Regime Change I think it would do serious numbers. Nobody makes small trucks in America anymore.
