It's 2005 vs 2017 for our latest series of tests as we pit the Honda NSX against a Civic Type R. It's not just age that is the only difference here --the rear-wheel-drive NSX has 280hp, while the front-wheel-drive Type R has 320hp. So can the latter teach the old dog some new tricks? The nsx still looks the best and will always be most of favorite car for the jdm community for its timeless design and its history I have a 1999 NSX it is turbocharged pushing 799 hp at the rear wheels with the recommended tire size for maximum grip my nsx will destroy that civic it also has a stop tec big brake kit 6 piston on the front and 4 piston on the rear out of all of my jdm cars from my 1000 hp mk4 supra to my high reving RX7 to the 1000 hp r34 skiline to the 800 hp 95 type 2 legend coupe to my 500 hp Honda Odyssey or my 1000 hp civic hatchback or my 600 hp 2019 ridgeline the nsx is my absolute favorite to drive from the sound you get to the instant throttle response with a cable to the 10, 000 rpm and the 6 speed manual transmission it feels like you are part of the car unlike all of the new cars out thair

We critize so much new cars but they are actually way better.
Imagine if someone said -my new hatchback beats your old supercar- he would've sounded like a madman and still.
That being said, the NSX is still legendary and unique but it's nice to have modern cheap hatchbacks capable of outperforming supercars even if it took a 2 decade long improvement

No doubt NSX is a classic beauty. But this is such a meaningless comparison from CarWow in wasting the NSX's miles in a drag race. Who cares about the straight-line acceleration. NSX is a lightweight JDM classic built for corners. After all, not everything is about the horsepower.

Look how awesome the Civic is, it only needed 4 cylinders to almost win the NSX, it's also FWD which is great, and all of that, the civic is affordable compared to the NSX
It sounds like a win to me, Civic all the day

The civic is nearly maxed out from the factory, not a lot thaty can be done for more power gain. The NSX has plenty of room still to modify for more power, not that any one would want to considering their stock value.

That's a slow NSX, seen them tested for years and the NA2 cars test pretty consistently at 13. 0, 13, 1 and a few at 12. 9. As far as the second speed test You have to have her to the Vtech line when you hit it.
reply

That roll race wasnt good because you were in too high of a gear you should have been in a vtec gear. your only advantage was instant throttle response into the vtec zone and you didnt utilize that.

Why yall are saying NSX this and that. Nobody liked this car when it was on sale. Costly, cheap badgy, not fast enough. Weak sell figures. The Senna badge is the hype train here. Nothing else.

It's a shame I own a 95 civic hatch 5 speed has ls block gsr head naturally aspirated with gsr buckets and jdm console inside it's pushing 300hp with a/c I love it nice and light

sooooo. just as fast on the 1/4mile, brakes better, more boost, a third of the price, has 4doors, seats 5, a trunk, never ending styling. amazing achievement by the civic type R
