Hyundai i30N vs E36 BMW 328i - DRAG & ROLLING RACE & BRAKE TEST - can -2. 8k beat -28k? Vitalijus: I own i30n and can verify that new BMW 328i is way slower in acceleration, turns and rolling pulls. The 328i owner after trying to catch up with me for over 10 minutes even asked me to stop and show him my car. He was amazed ant took a bunch of videos of the exhaust pops and bangs. Hyundai is not made for drag races, its full potential is in the corners and overall fun aspect. A well rounded car, but if you want to drag race it, prepare to be humiliated by significantly older cars. There are other hot hatches I could choose, but nothing can beat the price of a Hyundai. Got mine for 22k euro with 12. 000 km mileage and a 6 year warranty.

I think the glory years of bmw were between 1988 and 2004. When I think of bmw's in those years the first thing that comes on my mind is the driving experience, the feedback your car gives you, the way how raw combines with precise and the fun you get behind the steering wheel. I own a naturally aspirated petrol e46. I drove turbocharged cars with smaller engine than mine but faster and they never made up with the driving experience of good old bmw. :D

I had an S52b32 swapped 99' 328is with the zf 5speed (upgraded clutch/flywheel/cdv delete, full exhaust, tune, bolt on bits, and bilstein pss9 coilovers dialed in. and it was fun! it shot fire and made fantastic noises, looked the part, and was clean. eventually i started getting into e46 M3s. but at 20. this was a fun car and did everything i wanted a car to do. (brakes were the only trash bit but could have been upgraded)

The BMW clearly is superior to the hyundai. 6 cyl, n/a, rearwheel driven, and even after 20 years there's a huge fanbase and a lot of aftermarket parts and tuning options. And if i had to guess, even in 20 more years it will still be a great car, whereas i'm not so sure about the hyundais future. It probably won't even run anymore due to electronical issues, turbo or other engine failures/damages.

The last models of the 328 pushed out just under 223hp standard. I have one of them. And with the 325 manifold on it does 252hp, no remapping.
Then swopped the diff out with a 318 which dropped the top end from 278kph down to 245kph but did 0 - 100 kph in under 5 seconds with only those changes. Not bad for a 23 year old car.

NOTE: in case you missed me say it in the video, this 328i has been tuned to 226hp. Normally they only have 190hp. But this one has a different inlet manifold, new exhaust and an ECU remap. For more details on this click the link below in the description to watch that video.

That was close, but does not suprise me. I have a 3. 0i Z4 231bhp and it always beats the hot hatches of that ilk 0 to 60. It's in the mid range roll on where the turbo hatches slightly have the legs on me.

Time to revisit this, and put a hot modern BMW up against the highest-performing Hyundai hatchback from 1996, which is the 1. 5 litre Accent GLS. A beast. I'm sure it'll be just as close!

I didn't realise the i30N was that slow, with it's show off pops and bangs from the exhaust, although I never really paid it much attention I thought it would be a bit quicker than that.

Beautiful E36!
The BMW will keep going up in value, the i30N is depreciating. Both are very desireable, but I thought it's worth mentioning if you consider your money's worth.
