Erm. The GTI is 15k less. New golf best hatch of 2021? Is this a joke video -, looks worse than previous models, comes in only 3 colours, the new blue being worse than previous, quieter than a 1L seat ibiza, charging extra for exhaust sound, almost an estate with those 5 doors, I could go on here but do I really need to? S3 far superior and can get the base spec for less, VW are not fooling anyone with that extra 10BHP.

Am I the only one that thinks a ton of manufacturers peaked recently with their designs? I think the mk7 golfs looked better overall, so does the last gen Jetta compared to the new one. Think about the new BMW designs with the ugly grilles, the new Audi cars compared to the last gen, the new Mercedes stuff looks kinda meh too

Dont understand why hes always trying to put volkswagen down when it comes to putting them up against audi, bmw or merc. Volkswagen have rebranded and are now looking to become more of a premium mach for the other 3. There is a video on from BOTB drag race the golf destroys the amg a35 and the bwm m35i

Great video, but the title -It makes the gti pointless- is just not true obviously as a GTI owner i wish i had the R but I can't afford the R. I'm glad volkwagen makes a fun performance car for the people who can't afford a 40k+ car. Ignorant title.

Makes the GTI pointless? Not everyone wants to spend $45k+ on a little VW hatchback, no matter if it-s AWD. More people would rather spend $30k and get everything the R has outside of the AWD. Simple turbo upgrade and tune makes the GTI faster.

Love the VW Golf R but have only one complaint and it is to do with the front seats. It-s a complete seat with the fixed large headrests, even the Audi RS3 the have done away with type of seat and the rear passengers will not feel to queasy

Very boring I'm 60 in june and sold my TYPE R FK2 last september think the new HONDA TYPE R looks better and next year i will buy a new TYPE R hot hatches are supposed to look a bit crazy I'm to young to buy a golf R lol

I-m confused as to why the R is being compared to the A35/M135i/S3, wouldn-t you say the GTI is on the same platform as those? I always considered the golf R to be on the same platform as rs3/a45/M140i? Maybe I-m wrong
