my team and I will help you choose your ideal car at a fair price - from Mat Watson! . It's time for a VW Golf R vs Audi S3 group test! As we all know, both the Golf R & S3 are part of VW Group, so as a result, they-re both very similar under the skin - and that's no more evident when you check out the engine stats! They-re both packing 2-litre 4 cylinder engines, although while the Audi can produce 310hp & 400Nm, the Golf R edges it with the ability to put down 320hp & 420Nm! So on the face of it, you-d expect them to be pretty similar, but will that be the case once Mat gets his hands on them? Will the Golf's slight increase in power be noticeable once he's on track? And even if it is, would he rather find himself sat in the S3's cabin? You'll have to stay tuned as he walks you through all the key details you need to know, from thoughts on the exterior design through to the boot capacity! Oh, and of course, make sure you stick around for the launch & brake tests!

i know it's not a big deal. but really? no gas strut on the hood? my 2016 GTI has a damn gas strut. Also, That interior looks nice, i guess. more modern. but i still prefer MK7 interior. especially because of the MK8's god awful touch everything. like WHY. oh and the MK8 steering wheel is hideous. This is one generation of golfs where the entire thing 100% will not grow on me. Some things i just can't get over. anyone else feeling the same way?

Those plastic at the back door last ages, i've being driving VW when i was 16 till now 37, and never ever had any problem.
In Australia now driving SS VF Redline and doors are softer with leather and for some reason they get ripped off and get dirty after few years ( rubish.
You got to wash them but then after few times of wash they look so old, so i prefer plastic much better.
Soon now back to VW or Audi hard to choose which one.

Well, I have an '18 Golf R here in Canada! I wanted/loved the Audi RS3, but the $20, 000. 00 extra was a little too much! Both VW and Audi are producing amazing cars! With a Stage 1 upgrade, my Golf will be superior in many ways! Plus, mine has a full leather seat interior! What happened in your neck of the woods, where you got fabric and so much plastic? The interior of my R is amazing!

As a S3 owner, I-m challenged by Golf R drivers a lot on the road, so this video just made me super devastated. The fact is that not only I won-t be able to beat them in the near future, but also I-ll have a hard time beating them even if I switch to RS3. I-m gonna sell my car now, and I have no idea what I-m gonna buy to at least beat a Golf R.

Hi, Matt excellent comparison. Ive owned a couple of DSG's and when they detonate, don't be the owner. The increases in performance matched by the sturdiness of the drivetrain- I would like to know how bulletproof that part of the car is. and you won't get that from marketing people. VW record on honesty is not as good as the claimed 0-62 time.

rather than starting with prices, how about starting with stating which MODEL YEARS are being compared. was this a mat watson oversight? did mat leave out the model years on purpose? just plain horrible journalism? trick questions, all three; there is no excuse. matt watson aint worth his weight in spit without sherlock. holmes.

Mat, I would watch more carwow if they could get some more mature than yourself. Imparting I would like to point out that while Germany were being finances, after WW2, by America, France & the UK. The UK were still paying off their WW1 & WW2 debts to the USA. Nobody was financing British roads. School is now out.

I think Mat did a 0 to 60 in the older S3 which was as quick or quicker? The S3 is a nicer car to sit in and the Golf just looks like a GTI with a R Line badge on it. Interior is shockingly bad in the new VW hot hatches, even Hyundai I30N's seem nicer inside and infotainment is awful to use in the Golf.

I would trade the little bit of go-faster of the R for the 'better place to be' of the Audi all day long & 2x on Sunday. The haptic controls on the R are a straight deal-braker / fail all on their own. Shame on VW for putting those type of controls on the infotainment & steering wheel surfaces.

More Junk to go wrong! and adds more to the cost of the Vehicle. After having 2 VW Vehicles with problems with Stop/Start & Assist Braking and putting me in Danger! I will NOT BUY a new Vehicle again! Till you can Opt out of these Junk and not have a vehicle that is connected
