Aww Matt this actually brought tears to my eyes as well as a huge grin. Sixteen years ago we said goodbye to my dad who was in the airforce during the war serving as ground crew. He knew every aircraft of the time just by the sound of the engine. Your face was a picture, in the helmet you looked just like the younger self you described! I hope the pilot's ears soon recovered, he must have to wear ear plugs cos I bet everyone he takes out squeals just the same as you -

Possibly the most iconic fighter plane in history, beautiful lines although the hurricane did more work during the battle, possibly down to numbers. Not my No1 though, the Mosquito holds that place, again beautiful lines and for a twin engines plane such a balanced shape with a rich history of some of the most daring exploits. Great to see Matt so excited, whats next I wonder, speedboat?

The take off wasn-t a short field take off, it was a rolling take off so I imagine that the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times would be much different had the shirt field take off technique been adopted. Regardless, wheels are much more effective at accelerating a ground based vehicle.

I regularly hear a Spitfire (not sure if it-s this particular one) doing lazy low dipping turns over Box Hill nearby, and I can occasionally catch sight of it through the trees. As it turns in to the dive, the glorious -bwwoaaow- noise echos around the valley.

Has to be the most beautiful plane that ever took to the air. you regularly see those Spitfires from these companies selling experience flights from Eastbourne, as they make a beeline for the Seven Sisters. Sounds and looks amazing

The fact that this plane flew over arnhem in ww2 made me really emotional. My grandpa has probably seen or at least heard this very plane fly over the city back then.

Under 12 seconds to 60 isn't bad when you consider all you are doing is pushing air backwards, rather than using a geartrain to provide drive to the wheels.
