BMW M5 v AMG E63 v RS6 v Panamera Turbo: DYNO DRAG RACE

Mat s brought four of his favourite performance cars down to the dyno, and he s about to see just how accurate their performance figures are compared to what the manufacturers claim they ll be! We ve got an Audi RS6, AMG E63 S, BMW M5 Competition and a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, and combined, they all pack a serious punch! On paper, the Porsche should deliver the most power, with its 4-litre twin-turbo V8 combined with an electric motor to put down 700hp and 870Nm of torque. But then again, we ve drag-raced all four of these cars multiple times, and more often than not, the M5 Competition comes out on top! But will it be the same result today? Or could the RS6 or E63 S spring a surprise? There s only one way to find out LET S DO THIS! Brin: Nice vid but it doesn't mean much if the power numbers aren't adjusted. A dyno gives power figures that will change with different gearing. Even if all cars ran in 4th the numbers may not be accurate due to the cars gear ratio, tire size and other aspects. Power figures will also change hour to hour due to environmental figures.
What really doesn't make sense here are manufacturer's power figures are normally at the crank(engine hp/tq) and not at the wheel(wheel hp/tq. Parasitic loss for a awd/4wd system is can be higher than 15 to 20% and there is NO rule of thumb that applies

Question:
Aren't dyno's supposed to read wheel horsepower (whp) numbers, meaning the actual real world horsepower and torque going to the wheels, without drivetrain loss calculations? And aren't the claimed factory hp numbers supposed to reference crank horsepower (chp, meaning the power the engine makes after using drivetrain loss calculations?
So, are the dyno numbers being referenced in this video whp or chp numbers? If they're whp numbers, than converting those numbers to chp, every car here is pushing way over the factories claimed power right?

Honestly, all these cars are really impressive sports cars, but I don't think it was a surprise that the BMW M5 Competition won this, as usual. It was really impressive between the E63 S, the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, and the M5 Competition, but BMW has come out on top again as usual. Plus, it's pretty hard to beat an M5 Competition, that thing is just a masterpiece, and don't get me started on how even more ballistic the M5 CS is. If that was dyno-d, I swear the numbers would be even more insane.

The reason why the weights of the car have nothing to do with the manufacturers but everything to do with the owner is as follows:
If you purchase your vehicle with every box checked at the options list, your vehicle will weight 100kg over the wet weight of the vehicle.
In this comparison Audi and Merc are fully loaded, and the M5 isn't.
As an M550i owner, I can attest that my vehicle stock is 592hp on the dyno vs. the claimed 530hp. They are severely underrated.

I've not heard that much whistling since 90s raves.
It would be interesting to know what fuel these cars had vs what the manufacturers based their official figures on. There's also temperature which is clearly VERY cold in this video.
Lastly, all these flywheel figures aren't accurate anyway as thr dyno is measuring power at the wheels then guestimating engine power. The manufacturers test the engines with no transmissions to get a more accurate outcome.

When a rear will drive car is dynoed it will lose roughly 10% of its power due to friction losses (gearing, drive shaft, etc) between the engine and the rear wheels and an all wheel drive car will lose approximately 15% power. So for these cars to be putting out these numbers at the wheels means the engines are putting out way more than the advertised. Add 15% to those numbers and you will have the actual horsepower and torque numbers of the engine

For those that didn t know this already: that s why the C8 RS6 is so slow compared to its rivals. It s heavier and it makes LESS power than the C7 gen. C7s put out close to 600hp (claimed 560hp, C7 Performance versions put out 630-640hp (claimed 605hp.
Older ones were underrated, this one isn t, plus it s a boat. I don t know what Audi was thinking. Power to weight!

In a time where as an individual you're not even allowed to express certain opinions on certain matters that aren't even objectively verifiable in the first place without being censored, banned, and cancelled for spreading _'misinformation', _ how are these billion dollar companies getting away with just outright lying to consumers like this?

I would like to have more details on these figures. What are the wheel horse power? And how is drivetrain loss calculated to amount to those figures? Alot harder to do but calculating drivetrain loss per car would be epic.
Or was this whp all along and those cars all make crazy amount of power altogether?

Oh oh oh. But there are a lot of mistakes here. hp is not the same as German hp or kw.
Example: The RS6 has 441kw which corresponds to 600 German PS and 592 horsepower. It was measured at 599 horsepower, which corresponds to 607 German PS or 446kw.
The same applies to the other vehicles.

I assume Everybody does know a cold dyno can give a different (lower) figure.
would ve been great. If the first car could ve also retested as the last car to show any Dyno inconsistencies due to the thing being cold in the first place, possibly.

I was sure most car manufacturers lie about their engine outputs on their most powerful models with turbos. Easy to cheat with the turbos now-a-days. Those 0-60mph and 0-400m didn't have any logic as they were faster than what their power/weight figures indicate.
reply

Did you also consider that in the claimed weight a 75kg heavy driver is included?
Because if not all of them would be overweight, since it seems you measured without the driver inside, with the audi being completly off the scale

I love this video man. not because I m a BMW fan boy. I got to say I was a little bit scared when the Porsche appeared on my screen buh you ve gotta own a BMW to experience the ultimate driving experience
Thanks for the content Matt!

Love the rs6 but audi fails miserable again especially in terms weight. They lie allways. Audi cars are so much heavier in RL than audi claims.
A German car magazine tested s8 and it was 250kg+ more heavy than claimed
